Meeting Abigail Benson Part 4
Smoke and Mirrors hunt the mysterious green creature.
Mirrors looked at Smoke. Her plain green eyes held a glint of mischief. Her pupils were wide and her dark grey ears were sharpened and perked. There was something amiss in the house.
Smoke noticing the wild come across her sister bolted upright.
The two cats froze. Ready to pounce. They waited.
Time stood still as they surveyed the house. It was late enough in the morning that the light of day leaked into the sleepy house.
Then Mirrors saw it. One of her favorite glowing friends. It appeared through the wall and headed towards upstairs.
The glowing things came to visit quite often now. Abigail had never noticed. Mirrors didn’t understand why her human couldn’t see such brightly lit creatures. If Abigail had seen them, maybe she wouldn’t get in trouble for chasing them. She had never gotten into trouble for chasing a mouse. What made these creatures different?
When Mirrors chased mice, Abigail cheered and rewarded her with lots of good kitty praise. When she chased the shiny creatures, she got in trouble for messing with Abigail’s stuff.
“Stop messing with my stuff.” She would say as Smoke and Mirrors searched the shelves in the craft room for the glowing creatures. She was, after all, a cat. And cats have no control over where their prey runs. Nor do they have control over whether their humans can see it.
It was not her fault. She was by no means “Messing with Abigail’s stuff”.
What was so wrong with humans?
Weird blind creatures, Mirrors thought to herself. Then, just like that Mirrors stopped caring.
She could see the glowing thing. It was the green one, and it had just left Abigail’s bedroom. What was it doing in Abigail’s? Mirrors wondered.
Smoke had caught the expression on Mirror’s face. Knowing she had just caught sight of their prey. The hunt proudly displayed on the faces of both sisters. They knew exactly what was going on and wasted no time.
The glowing creature darted across the room, trying to avoid the cats. They had really hoped to come and leave unnoticed. She knew what would happen if she were to get caught and they couldn’t risk blowing their cover.
The two tiny cats were in hot pursuit.
It zipped down the stairs and across the couches. Desperately trying to get to the nearest wall to escape.
The cats were behind them, flying as if their feet had never touched a floor a day in their lives.
The glowing creature ducted through the wall.
The cats, unable to follow, rebounded off the spot just above where had entered. They quickly changed their course so as not to lose their prey.
Determined, the two felines made their way to the stairs. They found themselves on the other side of the wall. Catching only a glimpse of the green glowing light, they watched it disappear.
She took refuge in amongst the lights of the Christmas tree. Hiding in plain sight, she hugged one of the green lights attached to thick, twisted green wire.
The cats were fast today, and she needed to catch her breath before opening the portal through the wall.
The cats saw. There was no more time. She gathered what strength she could, opened the wall portal, and made a beeline for it.
Leaping in pursuit, the cats stretched their long, muscular bodies. Through the air, they flew as the green glowing things disappeared through the wall just in time.
In a flash of silver grey and black, the two cats began their ascent up the meticulously decorated tree. Desperately trying to follow the glowing being through the wall.
