Mirror Mirror
They say you shouldn’t look into the mirror; you wouldn’t like what it had to say.
They say you shouldn't look into a mirror for too long; you won’t like what it has to say.
The truth will always be difficult to comprehend. Sometimes it is freeing, some times it is cruel, sometimes it’s painful. But it is always necessary. No matter how much you fight the truth will always prevail.
And what better way to get the truth than from a mirror.
After all, they say the change comes from within.
And you try not to look - Desperately clinging onto me truth of what you know. Because if it cannot be seen then you are not responsible for it, you can not be held responsible. So you don't look. But you want to...
And what could be so bad? Why would peering at your reflection be so revealing. Does that mean you are transparent? Are you truly a bad person?
Why would you fight it?
Can you really stop yourself from looking, even when your curiosity gets the better of you. Are you really strong enough? Card you live not knowing? Not understanding?
What happens when it gets the better of you?
Do you cry for what was? Would you ever be able to look back at your own naïvety and wonder Where you went wrong, or wonder if you’d been better off not knowing? Could you live with yourself then - knowing you doomed yourself?
But would you want to do it again?
Knowing what you do know, would you check again, the consequences be damned? Would you ever be able to stop - because what if something changed or suddenly you were a better person, a beacon of beauty or centre of intelligence?
Would you be obsessed with the question… what if? Would it encapsulate your mind and hold you captive - would you ever be strong enough to escape? Where you ever?
Could this be the end of you- would you fall victim to the thrill. You could never say they didn't warn you - they said you wouldn't like what it would say.
You ignored them anyway.
And then here you are, wondering where you went wrong, trying to pinpoint the moment you put yourself down. Is there just one occasion, or was it a long time coming? Where you always this reckless?
Yet you know you would do it again.
How could you not? The act was too risky, the consequences damned. You never thought to the future when you decided to look. And you know now, you always would. You know that if given the chance to relive that moment, you would do it all over again - consequences be damned!
You doomed yourself the moment you fell victim to your own curiosity. You were doomed way before you ever looked.
Curiosity proved to be your hamartia and you were the tragic hero. You were doomed.
They said you wouldn't like what it had to say. Did you ever doubt that?
Or did you expect it? Want it? Could this be why you would never grow to regret your decision.
They said you wouldn't, like what it had to say... But your reflection contained a sly smirk of contempt.
And you couldn't be happier!
That is the end of Mirror Mirror. Thanks for reading.
