Mona's Log:
Thoughts of a 48 year old.
I’m getting old they say..
Who are they? Oh, you know... People...
I join in with interesting conversations down the pub and they look at me like I’m someone’s grandma.
Why did nobody tell me?
In my heart, I feel like I’m 17.
Haven’t felt a day older since I was 17.
Ha... in a few years, my daughter will be 17.
It’s got harder since the divorce I admit...
An attractive young guy started chatting me up...
I can overhear his friends.
They're calling me a cougar... when I was their age I dated older guys... I really don’t see what the problem is.
Surely people are people...
Oh my god. That’s why.
I just caught sight of us standing next to each other in that mirror behind the bar.
Now I understand what they’re saying.
I’m 48... a hot 48 I dare say but still...
how old is he?
Eighteen?
Nineteen?
What the hell is he doing talking to me. He seems intelligent, witty... even charming.
I love the way his brown hair flops over his eyes and he has to swipe it back.
The way he makes the face when he sips his drink...obviously he’s not used to it.
But is he really interested?
Are his friends laughing at me behind my back?
Is he just looking for someone with experience?
What am I doing here?
In a nightclub on a Friday night alone?
I’m lonely. That’s it I guess...
just lonely...
I tried that online dating lark
Full of men after just one thing. Or people who seemed so very old...
Does that make me a hypocrite?
After all, everyone knows what happens in nightclubs. It’s not exactly where you go to meet your soul mate, is it?
Think about it?
How many happily married people have you met who found each other in a nightclub?
Nightclubs exist so that you can make horrid mistakes with great-looking people.
They're where you create the secrets which will stay in the closet of your mind for the rest of your life.
They're the reason why, when someone in years to come asks you ‘Has anyone ever taken a picture of you naked’ you have to think about it, hoping that your memories are accurate; praying that one day someone doesn’t ‘find’ something on the internet to accuse you with.
Why shouldn’t I be here?
We're all adults!
I have needs and desires.
Maybe I don’t want to fall in love right now.
Maybe I deserve to have some fun, Christ knows there hasn’t been enough of that lately.
Bringing up a child is hard work.
Why shouldn’t I be able to let my hair down once in a while?
Work off some tension.
He has just asked me if I want to go back to his place.
I’ve only known him for an hour.
It’s funny that if I met him online I would want to know him for months in case he was a lunatic.
For all I know he is a lunatic and those friends of his are people he’s only just met.
OH, I really shouldn’t leave with him...
Mind you...
He is hot...
