Star Haven

In the city of Star Haven, life is pretty tranquil. Crime is almost nonexistent in Star Haven, which is the leading city in security protection with the state-of-the-art robotics police division of the Star Haven Police Department. Businesses flourish and are home to one of the most influential scientific and technology companies in the world. For one girl, twenty-two-year-old Daisy Williams, it would be a profound opportunity. Fresh out of college, her entire world was about to change. She received a position to work with one of their most valued scientists, Alex Moore. Strolling through the doors, she witnessed the fast-paced, chaotic environment. She moved through the crowds of people, bumping others and nearly getting knocked over herself. Setting her sights on the reception desk, she ducked and dodged others making her way forward. Arrival didn’t take long as she spotted the pattern of movements of the groups and individuals and came to a stop at the desk. Behind it, a young man clicking away at the computer keyboard. She stood there waiting, but her patience wore as she glanced at the clock getting closer to her being late. Clearing her throat, the young man stopped and turned his attention to her.
“Can I help you, miss?” Matthew asked.
“Yes, I am new, and I am not sure where to go.” 
“Okay, what’s your name?”
“Daisy Williams.”
Matthew, the young man, returned his attention to the computer, clicked a few keys, then once more returned her attention to it. He waved security over, and a tall, muscular man stepped up next to her.
“Take her to the tenth floor,” he said.
“Yes, sir.” He turned his attention to Daisy. “Ma’am, this way.”
He led the way with Daisy in tow as they stepped up and entered the elevator. The guard placed his ID on the scanner, then clicked the tenth-floor button. She stood there nervously.
“Everything okay, miss?”
“I’m fine, just nervous.”
“It will be okay.”
She forced a smile, taking his words to heart. The doors opened, and he led her down the hall to a waiting area and an empty receptionist desk. On the door next to it was the name, Zane Maxwell. The same Zane Maxwell who created the company when he was twenty-five.
Not long after, the elevator doors opened, and the young man from the reception desk strolled down the hall and stopped in front of her. She glanced up from her phone to meet his eyes. 
“Ms. Williams, I am Matthew Maxwell,” he said, extending his hand toward the other door. “Let’s go into my office.”
She rose to her feet and made her way to the office and took a seat as Matthew sat across from her, behind the desk.
“Is there a problem, Ms. Williams?”
“Matthew, huh? I guess you are the boss.”
“Ms. Williams, you have been assigned to Alex Moore’s department, and here is your ID.”
He handed her a freshly printed card. “This will need to be scanned at the entrance of the lab to access it.”
He pulled out his cell phone and sent a text to Alex. After several minutes, Alex walked into his office. She rose to her feet and shook his hand.
“Ms. Williams, I am Alex Moore, your new boss,” he said. “Now, we will be on our way to the lab.”
Followed by Daisy, he led the way to the elevator. Once inside, he placed his ID on the scanner, and the elevator doors closed and started moving to the sixth floor. Coming to a stop, the doors opened, and Alex moved down the hall to another scanner. On the door it read “Secret Projects”. She tried to push her nervousness down, but couldn’t as the doors opened and they stepped in to find others working on all kinds of strange projects. He waved his hand for her to follow and led her to a small office room filled with boxes and a desk littered with papers.
“They assigned you to a secret project called Project Dark Matter.”
“Project Dark Matter?”
“Yes, you will go through all this and scan papers for anything on dark matter. Input it into the computer.”
Before she could say anything else, he left the small room. He took a seat and stared at the pile of papers, shaking her head. One piece at a time, she picked them up and went over the research papers. Her entire day comprised searching for the papers that contained dark matter. Alex walked in to find her buried in the papers. She glanced up and set a couple of them down.
“Mr. Moore, what can I do for you?”
“Ms. Williams, it’s now after five o’clock,” he said. “Time to end the workday.”
“Thank for letting me know.”
She set the papers down and stood up from the chair. She gathered her things and headed home. As she entered her place, she tossed her things on the couch and flopped down exhausted. Her first day went off without a hitch, but she suspected it would get more exciting as time goes on. Her phone chimed, and she glanced at it, a smile on her face. She jumped to her feet and opened the door. Standing on the other side of the door was Alex. She grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him into a deep kiss. Then, he grabbed her by the hand and led her over to the couch, where they sat together as she cuddled in close, resting her head on his shoulder.
“Daisy, I am glad you got the job, and as of now, no, Matthew doesn’t know we are together.”
“It’s fine. I have you and now the new job, so I am happy. Matthew will meet me officially soon enough.”
They both sat in the silence of each other’s company as the couple planned for a future together.
