Sweet Dreams
A story about to soulmates connected only through their dreams.
Chapter 1
The two of them grabbed their Algebra textbooks and went to class, repeating the same old mindless repetitive tasks they do every day. Their classrooms were so dull. It was like the architects went to a Prison themed IKEA, and made knockoff designs of all the furniture, especially the walls. They were just white cinder blocks, stacked onto one another.
And the desks were even worse. They were obviously junior high desks. No normal sized teenager could fit into any of these. Thomas looked over at Frank, one of the guys in his class, who was… bigger than the average high schooler.
“Poor guy,” Tom said to himself.
On the other side of the room, Frank was halfway off his desk. And the legs of the chair looked like they had seen better days.
Frank was a football player, offensive lineman. He wasn't plus size, he was just, “Big”.
“We really need to get some new desks in here,” Joe said while looking at Frank.
During Lunch Thomas and Joe sat across from each other as always. Thomas with his taco salad. And Joseph with… what looked like… possibly could be called a…
“Hey, Joe, you uhh… have weird dreams right?” Thomas asked.
“Yeah, all the time.” Joe replied. “And actually I think I share dreams with Adam Sandlar sometimes.”
“Adam Sandlar?” Tom asked doubtfully.
“Yeah man, I'm telling you, sometimes when I go to sleep, I'm in random sitcoms, or the weirdest movies. Stuff that I've never seen before. And they’ve always got the main characters,” Joe said.
“Like who?” Tom asked
“Like Kevin James, Jennifer Anastin, Rob Shneider, and Chris Rock.” Joe stated.
“You're making this up.” Tom said..
“It's the truth,” Joe said while taking a bite out of whatever it was he had been munching on.
“Anyways,” Tom started, "last night I think I shared a dream with someone.”
“Who?” Joe asked.
“I dunno’ “
“What do you mean you don’t know?”
“Well, it's complicated,” Tom started to explain. “I was at a wedding. The whole place looked pretty girly if you ask me, flowers everywhere, Pink curtains. The whole deal.”
“So what was so weird about it then?” Joe questioned.
“Well, I was the groom,” he answered.
“Ohhh ho ho” Joe interjected.
“What?” Tom curiously asked.
“What do you mean ‘What’?” Joe asked, “There's Literally someone out there dreaming of marrying you.”
“Just because I was the groom in someone else's wedding, doesn't mean they want to marry me,” Thomas said, correcting him. “People have weird dreams all the time.”
Joe looked at Thomas with a face of disappointment.
“You’re really a pessimist.”
“I'm a Realist.” Thomas replied.
“So, who was the bride?”
“I dunno,” Tom started “The dream ended before I could lift her veil.”
“Unlucky,”
‘Who knows, you might see her again… in your dreams,” Joe said sarcastically with a smirk.
“Oh shut up.”
After lunch, they went to their next class, chemistry. Luckily, they had that class together.
With bottles in front of them and all different sorts of liquids of all different colors, Joe looked around the classroom.
“You think she might be at this school?” Joe asked Tom, who was sitting right beside him.
“Hush, I'm trying to concentrate,” Tom said, as he was slowly pouring 5ml of something into a beaker.
“I mean, what if she's even in this classroom.” Joe said.
Tom's eyes widened as he realized the possibility. Then he regained his composure.
“Nah, not possible,” Tom said
“Why not?” asked Joe.
“Because, there are only two girls in here,” Tom said, “and they both want me dead.”
They wanted him dead because he had the seat next to Joe.
And Joe was More or Less the Dreamboat at this school.
“Fair enough,” Joe started, “but still, you don't necessarily have to like someone to dream about them.”
“Do you mind? I'm trying to focus here!” Tom snapped.
Joe Snickered, He realized that this whole dream thing was a little more concerning than Tom was letting on.
Now they were in shop class. Thomas was measuring out how much wood he needed to finish the roof of the bird house that he and Joseph had been working on together.
Joseph was reading the manual on how to build the bird house, and giving Tom instructions.
“Alright,” Joe said, “one by four of red wood”
“Check” Tom said, while crossing what joe said off the list
“Eight Nails”
“Check”
“Hammer”
“Check”
“Alright then, let's get started,”
Thomas was hammering in the nails as Joe held the board steady.
One nail in, two nails in.
“So,” Joe said. “What if she's a freshman?”
Thomas, distracted by Joe's sudden comment, hits his thumb with the hammer.
Thomas shouted in pain.
“Oof, That's gonna leave a bruise.”
“I think it's broken,” Tom said while blowing on his thumb
“Women don't like crybabies,” Joe said.
Thomas looked at Joe with murderous intent.
Thomas set down the hammer before he did something irrational that would have landed him on the front pages of tomorrow morning’s newspaper.
Joe was laughing, Tom not so much.
When Thomas got home, he had dinner, which was spaghetti and garlic bread, his favorite.
Then got a shower and finished his homework.
Then he remembered his (technically, someone else’s) dream from last night.
He couldn't remember as many details as he did that morning. He was afraid that he might totally forget the dream sooner or later. He brought out his laptop and looked up ways to remember his dreams in the morning.
Google said that, Keeping a Dream Journal, or some sort of notepad nearby
and writing down every detail of the dream you can remember, helps drastically with Dream memorization.
So Thomas Grabbed one of the composition notebooks he had in his backpack, one filled with nothing but Joe’s Graffitti, and wrote “Dream Journal” On the cover.
Then wrote down everything he could remember about the previous dream.
Wedding, Bride in white dress, Priest.
Lots of Pink.
Chapter 2
Tom set himself in bed. Pulled the blankets over himself, and closed his eyes.
Moments passed. But he still wasn't asleep. His mind was racing.
“What if someone actually does like me like that? Who is it? What does she look like?
Does she go to my school? Is she a senior? Freshman? What's her name?”
Then a serious thought came.
“How do I even feel about her? Will I like her? What if I don't?”
Minutes turned into hours, and many hours passed without Tom getting a wink of sleep.
Thomas looked at his clock, 4:37am. Tomorrow, or actually today, was gonna be a rough day.
Tom tossed and turned through the night. Trying his best to go to sleep.
But his mind was overflowing with questions. After a restless night, Tom woke up not even two hours later. He looked at his alarm clock. It was about to go off in fifteen minutes.
Tom hated waking up before his alarm clock- wasted time. Thomas got out of bed, and Threw on some khakis and a T-shirt. Tom normally didn't wear T-Shirts, but he had forgotten to do his laundry last night, and all his button up shirts were dirty.
Tom Went downstairs after gathering his things, and made toast. He was slowly dozing off while waiting on his toast to finish. Then the sound of the ding, letting him know that the toast was ready, brought him back.
Thomas rushed out the door with a piece of toast, with nothing on it. Today was going to be a rough day. When he got to school he went to his locker, where Joe was waiting for him.
For once it looked like joe had a good night's rest, and before Joe could start their daily joke.
He realized Tom really didn't look too well.
“You okay there, Tom?”
“Fine..” Tom said as he was opening his locker.
“What happened? You look exhausted.”
Tom was looking in his locker, with no reply.
“Tom?” Joe asked.
Joe looked behind the open locker door and saw Tom there with his eyes closed, snoring.
Joe Shook Tom. “Tom get up”
Tom opened his eyes.
“Sorry..” Tom said
They grabbed their books and left for Algebra II.
During Algebra II, Joe and Tom were sitting together, trying to focus on what Mrs.Cameron was saying.
“What's wrong tom? You look exhausted.”
Tom had his head down on his desk. With his arms folded to make a nice pillow for his head.
“Didn't Sleep well” Tom said, without lifting his head.
“What happened to the whole, Looking for details in your dreams, or whatever?” Joe asked
“That was the plan.” Tom said.
“Well heads up, we got a quiz coming.”
Tom lifted his head. Mrs.Cameron was handing him the quiz. As Tom glanced over the quiz, he realized that he should have been paying more attention during class yesterday.
Tom finished his quiz and turned it into Mrs.Cameron.
Tom returned back to his table. And put his head back down for the rest of class.
Next Class was chemistry, Tom went to go get his textbook. He passed by a dozen other students. Who all mostly looked as tired as he was.
When Tom got to his locker he saw something sticking out one of the vent holes.
A pink envelope. Tom grabbed it, and turned it over, with a small hope it would be from his mystery bride. But his hopes sank when he saw that it read “To Joe.”
Joe was right next to Tom, also getting his chemistry textbook. They were locker neighbors.
“More Fan Mail..” Tom said as he handed the letter over to joe.
“Another fine addition to my collection.” Joe said.
Joe opened his locker where he kept a portfolio of all the letters he received. Tom looked at the Portfolio, It looked like it was bursting at the seams. Trying to contain all of the letters from admirers of Joe. Tom wasn't envious, he was more or less proud of Joe. They grew up together, He was happy to see the amount of attention his Buddy was getting.
Joe opened the portfolio, and inside were tens, maybe hundreds of letters in envelopes that stretched from colors of pink, to purple, some red. Joe tried to squeeze in this new letter to the back of the bunch. Joe looked back at Tom,
“Ready?” Joe asked.
“Yep”
Tom Grabbed his Chemistry textbook and they both left for class.
Later, During lunch. Tom and Joe were sitting across from each other as always.
But this time was different, this time they were outside. No particular reason, They just wanted to enjoy the view. It was a lot more quiet outside than in the cafeteria.
That was something that Tom liked quite a bit.
Today, Joe had a Sandwich. At first glance it looked regular. Just an everyday, your typical average, Peanut Butter Jelly sandwich. Until, Tom realized that, that wasn't Jelly.
“What are we having today joe?” as he gestured towards his sandwich.
“Well, I was going to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, But we were out of jelly,
And I had already spread the peanut butter on the bread, and i didnt want to waste it, so I thought ketchup would be a good substitute.”
“No.. Joe… It's not a good substitute.”
“I mean, it tastes fine to me.”
Joe, What a character. Gets all the girls, but he can't tell the difference between Jelly and ketchup.
“What do you have?” Joe asked.
“Nothing today, I forgot to pack a lunch.”
“Oh do you want some of mine?”
“Nah that's fine, Thanks though.”
Tom was almost hungry enough to try Joe’s Sandwich, Almost.
The rest of the school day was mostly a blur. Some Extra homework,
Another quiz. Nothing much.
When Tom Got Home, He set his stuff down, And sat on the couch for a bit.
And soon enough, He closed his eyes. And began to drift asleep.

Chapter 4
Thomas looked around. He was in a park, the birds were singing, and people were walking by on the sidewalk. Thomas was sitting down, in the grass. On some sort of Red and white checkered blanket. On his right there was a basket beside him. Thomas peered inside the basket and found an assortment of items. There were sandwiches, glasses, plates, chips, and a few juice boxes.
A picnic. Thomas took another look around him. And on his right, there was a woman, who had her face turned away from him. With a red beret lightly sitting on her head. Her brown hair
Flowing down, gently resting on her shoulders. She wore a Red dress with white polka dots.
Thomas leaned over to tap her on the shoulder.
This must have been the mystery bride in the other dream.
And when he tapped her on the shoulder, she started to turn around.
“Thomas, wake up.”
Thomas opened his eyes. His dad was shaking him.
“Time for dinner,” his dad said.
Thomas sat up straight rubbing his eyes.
“Come set the table.” His dad said, while walking back into the kitchen.
Thomas sat there in silence for a minute.
This isn't very funny anymore. Tom whispered under his breath while blankly staring at the carpet.
“I’ll Be right there dad, just gotta run up to my room real quick!” Tom Shouted towards the kitchen.
“Ok! Just make it quick!” His dad yelled back.
Tom grabbed his bag and went upstairs. He threw his bag on the bed and grabbed his journal off the nightstand. He sat on the bed and tried to recall the details of the dream he had just woken up from.
Let's see… Picnic, Park, Woman in red beret Red Dress with White polka dots. Long dark brown hair. He thought.
This barely helps, I know Tons of Women with long dark brown hair. But she did look young, Like to Junior to Senior. Or she at least dressed like one.
“Thomas!” His mother called.
“Coming!” he shouted back.
Tom set down his notebook, and Rushed downstairs.
“What's for dinner?” Thomas asked while walking into the kitchen. But when he saw his mom and dad, they were talking with two strangers. “Oh.. Hello...” Tom said with a face of shock.
“Oh hey tom, This is Michell and George. Some friends we invited over for dinner.” Tom's dad said. “Hey champ,How ya’ Doin’.” Mr.George said, while reaching for a handshake.
Thomas Reciprocated the handshake.
“Wow, this kids got a grip!” Mr. George said while laughing.
Tom awkwardly put his hand in his pockets.
Mr. George Was Tall and wore a Blue Polo Shirt with white stripes. He had very hairy arms, yet no hair on his head. Mrs.Michell Was tall, but not as tall as Mr. George. She had long Brown Hair that stretched down to her shoulders. She wore glasses, and her nails were painted a shade of pink.
“So! What's for dinner?” Mr. George said. He had a very upbeat attitude. Like he had just won the lottery. “We're having meatloaf, with some broccoli.” Tom’s Mom said.
“Tom, Go set The Table.” His Dad said
“Yes sir.”
Tom went to the cabinets to grab plates and silverware. He walked into the dining room and set the plates and forks in their spots and enough napkins for each.
Tom walked back into the kitchen. “Hey mom, i'm not so hungry, I think i'm just gonna go upstairs.” Tom said.
“Oh.. Ok honey.” His mom said. “You want me to save you something for later?”
“No thanks, i'll be fine.” Tom said as he was walking out of the kitchen.
Thomas Went upstairs into his room. He didn't really like company, he rather just wait upstairs watching youtube. When he opened up his laptop, A notification popped up.
An electronic Voice Dinged, saying You have 3 New messages.
“Tom, Your never Gunna believe this!”
“Tom Answer!”
“Sjdbaoiudbjaow12894u1ah!45”
As tom was reading he was receiving new messages from joe at the same time.
“I'm here, what's up?” He sent.
