Galdorwide is a sprawling, magical kingdom, home to a host of mythical creatures. It is also a kingdom in grave danger.

A tiny, young woman with ashen skin and pale green eyes stared vacantly at the floor as she sat upon her throne next to the king’s, which sat empty. The room’s entrance doors creaked open, echoing throughout the spacious room. Her eyes remained on the stone tiles.

The windows along the left side of the black wall howled as thunder rolled outside. Water dripped in from one of the windows where a crack had formed earlier, after one of the princess’s shrill cries.

Alongside the opposite wall was a choir of witches dressed in a mix of purple and black robes, singing sullen tunes all hours of the day, only taking a five-minute rest between each song. The knights and anyone who wasn’t the king or Princess Bella found the choir quite eerie and disturbing.

Upon the knights’ arrival, the choir stopped and began to whisper.

Bella shot the choir a glance, and immediately they knew to continue their song. The princess looked back down to the floor.

“Your Royal Highness,” one of the three knights said as they bowed, eyeing the choir, whose music made today’s events seem even more haunting.

“We searched the valleys, the caves, every home, and every store,” the knight who stood to the right began. He let out a gulp. “The king was nowhere to be found.”

The princess snapped her head up. She let out a scream filled with all the rage and pain that she had bottled up inside of her. “I want him found!” She struck her small fists against the black metal armrests on her seat.

The knight’s eyes widened; they had seen Bella angry before, but with the king gone, it seemed like the seal that had helped contain her anger, had been lifted. She was now able to let it all out.

“We’ve looked,” the same knight continued to speak.

Before he could continue talking, the girl’s irises washed over with a purple glow. She lifted her hand, fingers opened, which she aimed straight at the knight beside him. As she balled her fingers into a fist, the man began to choke. She pulled back her hand, making her grip on his throat tighter. The third knight, who stood behind them, watched on with wide eyes. The knight who spoke had little to no emotion, as he was used to the Carter family’s wrath. The choking man then fell forward.

“Find him.” The princess’s voice softened. She spoke as if her lips had gone numb because they had. Just hours before, the news about her father’s disappearance had spread throughout the entire kingdom.

The two remaining knights bowed without saying a word, scared to even breathe in the wrong direction. They straightened themselves and headed towards the door to exit and continue to search for her father.

Bella lowered her hand. She turned to the choir. “Out, all of you; return tomorrow at dawn.” Her eyes fell back to the floor. When she heard the door shut, she looked up. Seeing that no one was around, she relaxed her body. Bella smiled. She had to keep up this act if she did not want to be convicted as an accessory to murder.
