The Others
Will the secret ever be revealed.
The Others
“Jamie there’s some special people here to see you,” said his adopted mother.
“Great mum!” Said Jamie excitedly.
The two men introduced themselves as Professor Griff and Professor Stone.
“Jamie there some tests they want you to do. Show them to your study area and they will give you the papers and watch you do them.”
“No problem, excellent mum!” Said Jamie enthusiastically.
Jamie sat down with pen in hand and studied the papers the two men had brought with them. Professor Griff pulled out a stop watch and told Jamie the session would be timed.

Jamie was 4 years old, and the mob had surrounded his parent’s car.
“Satanists and witch scum!” the mob shouted, “Burn in hell you flipping evil scum!”
Jamie realised how well the situation had started but had then quickly escalated. Ten minutes earlier it had been a different story.
“Jonathan look! “Cried Jamie’s mother-Elizabeth- That house is on fire!”
They pulled up to the burning house. There were several people at the front in distress.
“It’s Sammie she’s my 6-year-old girl trapped by the fire!” Cried a distraught woman.
“We called the fire service but they say it’s going to be about 10 minutes before they get here!”
“Please oh someone please help my little girl!” Cried the girl’s father.
Jonathan looked up. There’s a little girl holding onto the outside of the window! She’s only got minutes before she falls either due to the fire or her strength giving out!
“Jonathan, we got to do something!” Screamed his wife Elizabeth.
The little girl’s parents were in tears. “Somebody! Somebody please help my little baby!”
Jonathan looked at Elizabeth and she knew what he was thinking.
If we help, our secret will be out and we will put all our kind in danger. The humans will hunt us down and exterminate us like they did to the Neanderthals, said Jonathan to his wife telepathically.
But we can’t just do nothing! A little girl’s life is at stake! Replied Elizabeth telepathically back.
Maybe the humans won’t treat us like they did in the middle ages and call us witches and burn us at the stake, maybe they are more advanced and liberal these days. Maybe things have changed now.
I hope for your sake, mine and little Jamie’s that your right, replied Jonathan telepathically.
“Do it.” She said simply.
Jonathan’s feet levitated of the ground and he flew higher and higher, leaving the ground below him. Soon he was at the window, and grabbed the little girl, just before her strength gave out and she fell.
“Oh praise be to God!” A miracle shouted the girl’s mother, “I don’t believe it!” cried her father.
Jonathan levitated back down to the ground with the girl and gave her to her parents.
The small group of people were in shock with joy and relief.
“How did he do that?” one man asked.
“It’s the devils work!” shouted another.
Jonathan and his wife walked back to their car.
“I’m so proud of you Jonathan,” said his wife.
“Yes, we did well, we saved a life of a little girl.”
Jonathan started the car. Just then the group of people appeared in front of the car stopping Jonathan and his wife from leaving.
“Devils scum!” One man shouted, “they probably started the fire in the first place, the evil witches!” shouted another.
“No! No!” Cried Jonathan, “You don’t understand!”
“Get them before they get away!” Cried someone form the crowd.
“No, you don’t understand!” Cried Elizabeth, “we are not witches! We are people that have lived amongst humans for centuries.”
“Burn them!”
Someone from the crowd, had picked up a burning log from the house and slammed it at their car.
“No…No…Don’t we have a son- “Jonathan cried and he and his wife were about to get out when someone opened fire with a .22 Magnum.
The car went up in a blaze.

Jamie would remember that day forever. The fire brigade had arrived and put the fire out and found 4-year-old Jamie in the back seat of the car; he had been rigid with fright.
The two professors watched Jamie expectantly. They nervous I can tell thought Jamie.
Once the tests were done which took about two hours. The two professors eagerly picked up the exam papers and headed out.
“We will be in touch very soon, maybe sometime this evening,” Professor Griff had said.
Jamie’s adopted mother and father looked at Jamie with amazement. However, their amazement was short lived. Three hours later professor Griff called Jamie’s’ dad on his mobile.
“No, I’m really sorry to say the kid, is nothing exceptional, he’s just average.” The professor continued, “I’m sorry but we can’t give the scholarship to anyone with such average scores, it wouldn’t be fare on Jamie and it wouldn’t be fare on you.”
Jamie was in bed by the time the call came through, his adopted mother came in looking sad.
“Jamie, you didn’t’ get the scholarship, but its ok, we still love you the same.”
When his mother had gone, Jamie smiled to himself, the professors think I’m nothing special, I did it I fooled them. A small smile spread across Jamie’s face. I will never let the secret out. My parents let the secret out to help a young girl and died for doing so. I will never let the secret out Jamie thought to himself again.
