The queen of fire

Queen Fedora has always been a passionate girl. However, when she turned twenty, her passion evolved into a power to make fire. Whenever she was emotional, fires would light all around her.

Fedora was born in a beautiful castle in the northern mountains. Her father and mother were King and Queen of their mountain kingdom and were Kind and gracious to their people. When she was born, there was a darkness that settled across the mountains and the valley. No one knew where it came from, but it stayed for three days. When Fedora was two days old, a woman came in and touched her forehead.

What she had done was place a spell on the girl. This spell would activate the day she hit adulthood; her twentieth birthday. This spell would be connected to her emotions. Therefore, if she became overly emotional; everything around her would burn. She had hoped this would cause the end of the King and Queen's kingdom once and for all.

Now, Fedora was twenty and had accidentally set fire to her bedroom. She was the queen now; standing at her father's side until he found another wife. She had a nightmare and woke up with her bed in flames. She put it out and ran downstairs to her father and told him what happened. He told her about the spell from the old woman when she was a infant.

She began to cry and the flames from the fireplace started shooting out onto the floor. Her father rushed over and stomped the fires out. He looked at Fedora and told her to calm down. He told her he had decided to send her to their summer castle in the Caribbean islands. There was water all around the island and it would help her to control the power within her.

The next day, her father had a ship packed and ready for her to go. She knew this was what was best for her, but she didn't really want to go. She loved her father, her people and her kingdom. However, staying would only endanger them further. She reluctantly boarded the ship and waved goodbye to her people.

The trip began peacefully. The seas were calm and serene. Fedora would often stand at the helm to watch the Captain sail. She enjoyed how refreshing the sea would feel as it splashed on her face. She was finding a new fondness for the sea.

They sailed on for two months before they finally found land. Fedora was relieved to see land. Although she was enjoying the ride, two months was a little long. They came upon a island called Barbados. It was a beautiful island loaded with coconut and banana trees all along the beach.

Fedora waited until the men got the lifeboat down and then let them help her down into the boat. They rowed for twenty minutes and landed on shore. One of the sailors got out of the boat and helped her out. Fedora took her boots off and dug her feet into the soft sand. She loved how it felt between her toes; gritty, yet amazingly smooth.

The sailors rowed back to the ship and slowly pulled it along until they got to the shore. They knew they would be there for a while and decided it was best to harbor the ship. Here, Fedora didn't have to worry about setting things on fire too quickly. Everything close to the ocean was either wet or damp. Therefore, there was very little to quickly catch on fire.

As the days went by, the sailors had begun building small shelters along the beach. After each one was built, they would throw buckets of water on the houses. This was to keep them from catching fire in case their queen got emotional again. However, it was rare to happen in this place. As they had come to learn over the first year on the island.

The next few years, they continued to build further into the island away from the beach. Within ten years, the queen Fedora had her own island kingdom. During this time she fell in love with the captain and had married him. She had become pregnant with her first child. The pregnancy was a rather difficult one.

By the time she was six months along, she was bedridden. Her King took over the kingdom for the last three months she was pregnant. Her maid would often come and inform her what he was doing. From the sounds of it, he was doing fairly. Her kingdom was prosperous and the people were happy.

Three months later, she gave birth to a son. The delivery cost them half the island town. Due to fedora's emotions running so high, she accidentally set half the town on fire. Over the next few years, the people rebuilt and Fedora did her best to not get emotional. Eventually, the town was once again prosperous and thriving.

Two years went by before another fire happened. Only this time, it wasn't Fedora. Her son got mad when a small duckling snapped at him and another fire set and spread. This time all the town except for the shelters on the beach were lost. Fedora declared the land was too burnt to do anything on.

From that day on, they stayed on the beach. Now that both the queen and the little prince had the same power of fire within them; it was safer to stay on the beach. The rest of the island was left uninhabitable. From that day on they called it Fire Island and Fedora was the Queen of fire.
