Under the Knife

By Kiltron

He picked up the scalpel from the tray on the cart. Held it for a moment to admire how clean and shiny it looked as he could see his own reflection there. He took a deep breath before making the incision. A straight line was cut from navel to sternum. Then made a second incision along the same line. In through skin, muscle tissue, and membrane.
There! Made it all the way through. It was time to use the old fashion bone saw to open the chest cavity. The cut was made. Now, to separate the chest. A clamp was placed in, and he slowly spread the chest wide to reveal the treasures of all the organs within. Now the digging would begin. He brought out the stomach.
Carefully! He sat it in a silver dish. He cut the cord so to speak, cauterized the cord, then sliced the stomach open. He went through the contents and examined what could be readily identify what the patient ate and drank. Such a sour smell filled the room.
He went back to the patient laying on the table, reached in and pulled out the intestines. He spread them out and examined those also. He looked through the waste by-products. He had an idea of what may have been consumed for the past couple of days. He finished up and went back to the operating table.
He took out the bladder very carefully as not to damage it. Again, everything was cut away and sealed so the patient would not bleed out. He cut open the sack and it spilled into the silver bowl. It smelled of ammonia and urine.
Next, he went in for the liver and took it out with care. It was extremely healthy. It was placed into a zip lock bag, which was set into a cooler filled with ice.
Then he went in again and removed the kidneys. They were bagged and sealed within the cooler along with the liver. Now, for the gull bladder and spleen. Everything was set aside nice and neat like. All innards were taken but the lungs and heart. They had to stay for the time being. The heart still pumped strong, just as the lungs still inflated and deflated. The doctor leaned down and stared at his patient.
“No worries, I shall be back later to harvest the rest,” he said soothingly. The anesthetic worked wonderfully as the patient looked at the doctor in dread. (01/16/20)

Small author's note

What a fucked up story this turned out to be. I'm only writing this note to meet the word count requirements, lol!

That is the end of Under The Knife. Thanks for reading.
