A zombie story from a unique point of view.

It shambled forward, the never-ending hunger gnawing at its very core, the drive to feed on living flesh consuming it’s every waking moment.  It looked around the street, seeing the jerky movements of others like it, barely able to stand, yet always lurching forward, in the all-encompassing search for flesh.  It moaned in frustration as the rotting flesh of the others held no appeal to it and it turned slowly shuffling down an alley between buildings.

‘clink’.

It heard a sound and it stood up tall and turned it’s one remaining ear towards the sound and waited.  It heard nothing.  It started walking a little faster in the direction of the noise it heard.

“Shhhhh,” it heard softly from up ahead and it took a deep breath and let out a loud scream, alerting the others to the presence of prey.

“Fuck!” a voice said, “Run!”

It picked up speed, moving as fast as it’s decaying legs would carry it, it saw movement, it smelled the fear, it screamed again and heard screams from the others in response.  It saw the living running away, there were two large and two small.

“Get in there!” one of the big ones shouted towards a building as the little ones and the other big one ran through. The one who spoke leapt through the doorway and slammed the door in it’s face.  It howled in rage as it started to pound on the door. It could hear movement from the other side of the door, scraping sounds and shouting.

The hunger bit deep inside it as the smell of the prey was intoxicating and it threw itself at the door again and again, trying to get through.  It heard the others coming down the alley towards it.  It turned and looked at them and screamed a feral scream as they also started pounding on the door, small bits of wood started flaking off the door.

More and more of the others started arriving, windows shattering as they punched their way through them, more walking corpses pressed against the door, increasing the pressure on it until it finally shattered, and the horde spilled into the room beyond.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

Three loud explosions erupted from one of the big ones and the heads of three of the others exploded on those behind them.

“There are too many!” shouted a large one standing protectively before the other big one holding the little ones in their arms.

“You know what you have to do,” the one on the ground said, pulling the smaller ones closer.

“I can’t!” the big one shouted down to the ones on the ground.

It was nearly there, the scent of the flesh, tantalizing close, a few more feet and he would feed upon the flesh.

“Do it!” shouted the one on the ground, temporarily drawing its attention.

The standing one turned its back to the horde and pointed down at the ones below him.

Bam, bam, bam.  Three loud noises and the three on the ground slumped.  The scent of fresh flesh diminishing quickly.

It roared in anger and lunged at the last living one, they pointed to their head and there was a click.

“No, no, no,” it said as it clicked several more times.

It reached out a boney hand, it’s flesh barely hanging on to some of the fingers and it found purchase on the living one’s shoulder.  It grasped the flesh hard, feeling a finger slide into their flesh.  The one screamed as they were pulled back into the horde.

The horde pinned the living one to the ground and it opened its mouth wide and lowered it closer to the flesh, excitement, hunger, the need driving it.  It felt the bare flesh of the living against its lips, it bit down, its jagged, sharp teeth digging deep into the living flesh.

The living screamed in pain which only drove the horde into more of a frenzy to feed upon them before they were no longer living.

It dove back down for another mouthful of the living, biting deep, feeling the warm blood flow into its mouth and it swallowed the bit whole.

Then, it was done.  The living was no longer living.  They had the stench of death upon them.  It stopped and no longer smelling any of the living, it stood, turned, and slowly walked out the door with the rest of the horde.

The hunger still gnawing at its gut, driving it to seek out more of the living, it continued it search for more living prey.
