A Tequila Affair

Drama Mystery Thriller

An affair, a murder, a secret.

1982

A detective walked into the murder scene, a cheap motel room.
"How many bodies?," asked the detective as he sipped on his coffee.
"Two; a man and a woman. Both in their 40's," answered a woman in a white plastic suit, with white gloves and goggles. She was taking notes while examining the bodies that lied all over the bloody bed.
"Method of killing"
"Homicide. One shot for both. It went right through her back right into his heart. She was on top of him."
"Uh?," the detective was confused.
"They were killed while they were at it. Can you believe that?"
The detective tilted his head to one side and looked at the bodies on the bed, "Ah ok. That makes sense now. And you said none of their stuff was taken?"
"Not a single dollar was stolen. However, we found three shot glasses."
"So? They were having fun," the detective lit a cigarette.
"Yes, but one of the shot glasses belongs to somebody else. There was a third person in the room."
"Well, maybe they were into that kind of stuff."
"I guess so. But maybe that third person is either a possible witness or a possible suspect."
"And how do you know that it belongs to another person?"
"Because two of the shot glasses have the victim's fingerprints on them. But the third one, the one that we found on top of the table right next to the tequila bottle, has somebody else's fingerprints. Unfortunately, we could only get partial prints."
"Is there anything we could do with them?," asked the detective finishing his cigarette. "Do we have any idea on who the murderer is?"
"Samples are being sent to the lab for further investigation. But we think it might have been one of their spouses because both were married."
"They were having an affair?"
"Yes. They were shot while she was riding on top of him. Remember I told you?"
"Yeah, yeah. I remember. Wow. And what were the victim's name?"
"Omar Johnson and Sue Cranberry."
"Wait, wha--"

In a bar somewhere, a customer talked with the bartender. Two full shot glasses sat right in front of them.
"What?! That's insane!," said the customer very surprised. "So that's how this shot got its name?"
"Yep, that's how the story goes."
The customer grabbed his shot glass, raised it up to eye level, and examined it, "And what did you say was in it?"
"A little bit of O.J. and Cranberry mixed with tequila taken all in one shot," said the bartender.
"Damn! That's a crazy story!"
"That's what I've heard."
"So, who was the killer?," asked the customer.
"Whoever took the shot," said the bartender and then raised his hand with his full shot glass. "Cheers!"
"Cheers!"

*The story is over. However, there is a 500 word minimum requirement to be able to publish it. Here are the words needed to do so. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it. :)
