Horror Paranormal Thriller

Young lovers Gavin Stone and Kyra-Lee Hollow seem to have it all. Love, an Olympic gold medal and a great apartment. The problem? Things are rarely as they seem in the small city of Mortchwood Sask.

The Curse of Satan’s Baptist

The two had barely started when suddenly a loud bang echoed through the small one bedroom apartment that Kyra had moved into just before meeting Gavin. The force of the bang was strong enough to make the entire eight suite complex shudder.

“What the hell was that?!” gasped twenty-year-old Gavin, his voice ringing with fear and shock. Then turning quickly as he locked eyes with his girlfriend who was standing naked and shaking in the darkened twilight.

“Here babe, get dressed” Gavin said handing Kyra her clothes. “KYRA, snap out of it! Put these on, hurry up.” Gavin barked as Kyra took her clothes and gave Gavin a harsh look.

“Wha…what do you think that WA” Kyra’s voice stopped abruptly, frozen listening waiting. “AAAHHH WHA THE FUH” Again Kyra’s voice was silenced mid-sentence as she felt something icy cold breath on her neck sending her flying onto the bed where she flipped end-over-end, her head slamming violently off her glass topped computer desk.

“Kyra!” Gavin exclaimed nervously as he saw bright red blood begin to flow down her face. Gavin hurdled next to his fallen lover in one leap, sighing with relief as he realized the blood was coming from just above her ear. “Kyra, babe, can you hear me?”

“Ye-yeah, I-I’m fi-fine” Kyra slurred as she tried to get up, but she fell almost immediately.

“Kyra-Lee Hollow, you have to stay down, you have a concussion” Gavin explained as he desperately looked around for one of their cell phones and found his own. It took Gavin three tries to until he was finally managed to punch in the right code into the lock screen. Taking a few deep breaths, he was able to calm himself down enough to dial 911.

“Hello? 911, what is your emergency?” answered a soothing female voice on the other side.

“I need an ambulance to apartment 937 2413 Talence Crescent. My girlfriend hit her head on her computer desk…I think she has a concussion! She’s slurring her words really badly and she’s bleeding!” Gavin explained fighting hard to keep his emotions in check.

“I’m sorry can you repeat that please? Hello, are you there? Hello, is anyone there?” The operator pleaded growing more and more concerned.
Gavin, unsure of how hysterical he had sounded tried the request for immediate medical assistance again, this time with a calmer head. The attempt though was useless as all the operator was able to hear was static noise and the clicking of a line being cut. The 911 operator quickly dispatched an ambulance and a police cruiser to the address on her computer screen with a warning to use extreme caution.

Gavin was about to turn his attention back to his badly injured girlfriend when he felt a glacial chill envelope his entire body. The sudden temperature change caused a thick cloud to billow from his mouth with every breath. As he clung to a nearby dresser to keep himself upright Gavin felt his nerves finally become utterly raw as an eerie non-human voice growled demonically.

Gavin had no sense of what time it was, but he could tell it was getting deeper into the mid-summer evening as night fell upon the lightless ground floor apartment. Still weak, Gavin walked cautiously toward the injured Kyra, using the wall as a guide to feel his way toward her. Finding her he groped around feeling for her head and then clumsily placed a shirt over the wound. Just as he did this, the lights flicked on full blast, blinding Gavin and sending him shooting into the wall behind him, his palms pressed tightly over his steel blue eyes. Seconds later he could feel the heaviness in the room dissipate and return to normal as he heard a series of hard knocks at the door and a man announcing himself as Mortchwood E.M.S. After the medics had done a quick assessment of Kyra’s injuries they began expertly fitting her with a neck brace and loading her onto a gurney. It wasn’t until Gavin saw Kyra being lifted into the waiting ambulance that he got a sense of just how critical her head trauma was.

The next couple of weeks after the attack were filled with Kyra doing telephone follow-ups as well as appointments once a week with her physician. One day after Kyra had finished her last telephone check-up she was sitting in her apartment and hating it. The injury had forced Kyra to rely on the mental resolve that she had gained as a competitive Greco-Roman wrestler to stay positive, but now she could feel her resolve beginning to crack. It wasn’t that Kyra liked being confined to the impossibly clean smells and eerily lifeless walls of a hospital any better, but home had become a dungeon. The ominous sense of something malevolent making her feel as though she was not welcome, yet entrapping her like a prisoner within its chilled and blackened walls. Things like hairbrushes and silverware would randomly go missing, only to reappear deeply embedded in Kyra’s bed hours later. The Poltergeist-like activity had gotten so bad that even Gavin had made it clear more than once that he no longer felt comfortable going into the apartment, though he insisted he still would.

One Saturday evening three weeks after the first attack Gavin was sitting in Kyra’s living room waiting for her to finish getting ready for a much needed night out. As Gavin sat on a black and silver fold out couch he thought he heard Kyra calling to him from the kitchen, not thinking, Gavin walked to the kitchen and was stunned when he found it completely empty. As he made his way back to the couch to sit back down however, he narrowly missed being hit with a pillow that had taken flight by itself.

“Hey honey, you ready to take yo…” Kyra’s voice trailed off at the sight of the pillow being thrown across the entire width of her apartment. “Ga-Gavin? Wh-what was that all about?” Kyra stumbled with a gapping mouth.

“Nuh-nothing come on let’s get going my sexy Princess.” Gavin failed horribly to reassure his girlfriend, taking her by the hand and giving her a kiss.

Gavin had met Kyra in high school in grade ten and the two became fast friends, even thinking about dating a few times over the three years before Kyra graduated with highest honors. It wasn’t until two years later during a Breast Cancer marathon that Kyra was volunteering at as a special guest celebrity that the two finally decided to get together. Gavin had made it a tradition in high school of running in the marathon every year in honor of a close friend who was a breast cancer survivor. After he had finished racing, Gavin made sure to find Kyra before the closing ceremonies and the two shared their first date the next evening.

This night though was going to be, Gavin hoped, one of the most memorable the two had ever shared, complete with supper at a fancy new upscale restaurant, entertainment at a live musical, and ending with drinks at their favorite nightclub. Gavin was still amazed at the ease with which Kyra could move on the dance floor…so naturally, so effortlessly, and so beautifully always perfectly in time with the beat. He swore it was like the music was the one keeping up with her. The night like their worries, evaporated and it was well past one in the morning before they knew it. Too drunk to even think about trying to drive home, Gavin called for a cab to pick them up and forty minutes later the two young lovers fell fast asleep in each other’s arms.

When Gavin woke up the next morning he knew there was no longer any question that Kyra was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, smiling as he waited for Kyra to wake up. Gavin couldn’t help but smile as his heart began to race when he saw Kyra emerge from having a shower and join him at the kitchen table; he knew that this was the perfect moment as he took a deep breath and knelt down on one knee, raising a small black box toward the girl of his dreams.

“Ga-Gavin, wha-what are you…” Kyra stammered not believing her eyes.

“Kyra-Lee Hollow, you know I love you with all my heart and way more, I…I cannot for a second even fathom loving any other woman like you in any lifetime, and I don’t want to. I want to spend my entire life with you, Kyra-Lee will you marry me?” Gavin asked, surprised at how natural the proposal felt.

“Oh my God, Gavin…yes…yes of course I’ll marry you, I love you so much honey wow!” Kyra exclaimed forgetting she was still hungover as Gavin slid the small diamond encrusted ring on her shaking finger.

That evening as Kyra was sitting on her couch playing with her engagement ring she was overcome with a sudden pain in her lower back. The pain came from what Kyra thought were razor sharp nails scratching their way across the small of her back. Terrified, she jumped out of her spot and began moving as far away from the couch as she could before looking down at her engagement ring. The ring seemed to give Kyra a strange sense of bravery as she tried hard to sound defiant as she demanded that whatever had scratched her show itself. Just as she finished her sentence however, she felt the air in the room turn Arctic-cold and her body involuntarily shudder. Paralyzed by the sudden change in temperature Kyra stood motionless as her vision was lost in a cloud of her own breath. Kyra quickly ran for her phone which was charging in her bedroom, but when she reached the doorway, she was met with a blast of air so strong that it sent her flying backwards into her bathroom, the door slamming shut and locking in front of her. Scared and panicking, Kyra swung her legs in a counter-clockwise motion, using the momentum to bring her swiftly back to her feet. When she realized she couldn’t get the bathroom door open Kyra climbed onto the edge of her sink and jumped off, bringing both her knees to her chest before slamming her feet down on the metal doorknob. The force of Kyra’s jump sent her falling awkwardly into her tiny tub as the doorknob broke loose. Feeling slightly dazed from the fall, Kyra stayed entangled with her shower curtain as she tried to get her breath back and regain her senses. When she was sure she had not broken anything, Kyra climbed out of the bathtub and cautiously made her way across the hall.

Kyra had always been great at listening to what her gut instincts were telling her.

“Five seconds, just five seconds” she whispered to herself “just five seconds that’s all I need.” To her relief, her bedroom door swung open easily on the first try and she reached her desk in three vaulted steps.

Kyra was thankful for the cardio and conditioning that had won her a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Summer Games as she began sprinting in the same direction she had ran every day for the past five years, only diverting from her normal route when she came to the street where Gavin’s mother lived. When Kyra reached the house she was pleased to see the Smokey-greyish blue Nissan Juke parked in the driveway and the silhouetted shadows of people moving about inside. When she got to the door she was greeted by Gavin’s mother, Irena, who saw straight through the friendly façade Kyra was trying to maintain.

“Hello, Kyra? Wh-what happened? You look like you’ve seen a ghost or something. Come on inside let’s get you cleaned up.” Irena said politely before sending Gavin’s younger sister Gabriella to fetch her brother with a flick of her wrist towards the upstairs office. Seconds later Irena had Kyra sitting in the kitchen drinking a glass of water as Gavin came in the doorway, his eyes widening as they met his fiancé.

“Kyra, baby what the hell happened?” Gavin asked pulling her into a tight hug that Kyra never wanted to end, pulling him back in as he tried breaking off.

“It’s that damn house, I swear Gavin there’s something really, really evil there I-I don’t know how to explain it, but I know you know exactly what I’m talking about. Gav-Gavin…I think it wants to kill me! Please honey you have to believe me please!” Kyra pleaded her eyes searching for any shred of evidence that she wasn’t crazy.

“Shh, Kyra-Lee listen, you have to breathe OK?” Gavin responded quietly running as soothing hand through the twenty-one year old’s golden streaked black hair. “That’s it, just keep breathing in and out just like you’re wrestling calm your heartrate down…there you go feel better?” Gavin asked calmly.

“Yeah” Kyra replied giving Gavin an appreciative smile as she finished taking her breaths in counts of four.

“So what happened?” Irena repeated, seeing that Kyra was more or less back in control of herself again.
“I don’t know if Gavin has told you what happened that night I was rushed to the hospital. But ever since I got back home weird things keep happening and it’s just getting worse and worse.” Kyra began.

“What do you mean?” Gabriella popped up feeling really uncomfortable but not wanting to leave the room.

“Things will go missing or be moved, Gavin had a pillow thrown at his head when no one was there to throw it, he’s even said that he doesn’t like coming over anymore because of how evil it feels.” Kyra continued.

“So, what happened when you were rushed to the hospital that night?” Irena asked, trying to understand.

“We were…anyways, I felt this icy cold and I mean impossibly cold breath on my neck. Then all I can remember is feeling like someone or something took hold of my head and slammed my face into my computer desk, I know it wasn’t Gavin.” Kyra said as she finished recounting the story.

“I-I had something happen to me too that night after you face planted…that’s when I heard it.” Gavin admitted timidly.

“Heard what?” Kyra asked, the fear in her voice returning.

“A voice, only it wasn’t human…”

“What did it say?” Kyra asked.

“‘The night where love is seen without a gown is the night where one will drown. The light of the day that sheds light unto heartbreak is the light in which one will not wake. I am many and I am from Satan’s blackest region’ I will never forget it” Gavin said reciting the phrase he heard three and a half weeks earlier.

“Mom, Mom what’s the matter?” Gabriella asked impatiently catching her mother’s terror-stricken expression.

“Gavin Michael Stone are you sure that’s what you heard it say, one hundred percent, no doubt whatsoever?” Irena barked, her tone more serious than Gavin, Kyra, or Gabriella had ever heard it.

“Yeah one hundred percent I swear. Mom what the hell is the matter, what’s going on?”

“How many times have you heard it and don’t exaggerate!” Irena pushed as she began fidgeting badly.

“Just the one night after Kyra blacked out, Mother please what the hell is going on?” Gavin snapped becoming frustrated as he sensed that his sister was close to tears.

“Tha…that…what you heard was a curse of an ancient Spanish spirit known as Segador Del Señor Irena explained hesitantly.

“Lord’s Reaper” Gabriella, who had been taking Latin and Spanish lessons since grade one translated easily. “I remember reading somewhere that he was once thought to be a Baptist in the early 1600’s before he was accused of killing the people he was baptising, saying that they were all damned to a life of murder and bloodshed, and that they all needed to be killed before they could hurt anyone themselves. This was obviously never true thought and he was sentenced to be hung on the noose. Before he could die though, the rope ripped and he went on to kill ten or eleven more people before someone finally slit his throat with a sword or knife or something.” Gabriella continued.

“So, are you saying this psycho Baptist’s spirit is what’s been causing things to be moved when no one’s there to move it or make it disappear?” Kyra asked her tone becoming slightly defensive without her knowing.

“What I’m saying is that, What Gavin heard was the last words that the Baptist ever spoke.”

“So what happened to you tonight?” Gavin asked his fiancé, as he realized what his sister was saying was starting to make a lot of sense.

“I was curled up on the couth relaxing when all of a sudden I felt something scratch me.” Kyra said as she stood up and turned around, lifting her shirt to reveal three six inch long gashes that ran parallel along the middle of her lower back as she finished recounting the events of earlier that evening.

The time was now half past two in the morning as Kyra, Gavin, Irena, and Gabriella all sat around Irena’s wooden coffee table with an encyclopedia of ancient tribes, which had been a thank-you gift from the government of Colombia to Irena for her work there eleven years ago.
A short while later Gabriella exclaimed

“Here, it says that in the mid-1600s there was a Spanish Baptist named Muerte, which means ‘Death’ according to this he was a savage serial killer, or maybe closer to an Antichrist. Philosopher’s believed he was possessed by demonic spirits since a young age.”

“Okay, so does that have to do with the town of Mortchwood?” Kyra questioned softly, not wanting to hurt Gabriella’s feelings.

“That’s where it gets creepy, look at this map” the eleven-year-old replied spreading out a fold-out map.
Kyra’s and Gavin’s mouths dropped when they realized that Kyra’s apartment was built in the exact same place where the murderous Baptist killed countless innocent people.

“Wh…where does that saying that Gavin heard come in? You said it was this guy’s signature or something right Irena?” Kyra inquired, her voice once again beginning to quiver.

“The first line,
‘The night where love is seen without a gown is the night where one will drown.’
means that Muerte would drown his victims at night. The ‘love’ is referring to the woman’s confession of love for Jesus.
The second line ‘
‘The light of day which sheds light unto heartbreak is the light in which one will not wake.’
Is saying that the body of the poor woman would be found the next day, and the final line,
‘I am many and I am from Satan’s blackest region’
Muerte is saying that he has many people and followers ready and willing to fulfill his murderous plans if he should be caught or killed,’” Irena explained.

The next morning Kyra woke Gavin up early, gently rocking his shoulder back and forth, much to her delight Gavin woke easily and smiled at her as his eyes came into focus.

“Good morning Beautiful…what’s wrong?” Gavin said lovingly.

“I-I can’t find my engagement ring anywhere, I…I must have dropped it when I was attacked last night but I really don’t want to go back to that godforsaken apartment alone. Baby, I need your help I’m really sorry.” Kyra admitted nervously.

“Hey, hey calm down let me shower and get dressed quick then we’ll go back and look for it.” Gavin reassured his slightly panicked fiancé.

Half an hour later Gavin and Kyra were on the road driving in silence as they both replayed the horrifying realities of the night before. The two drew deep breaths before Kyra slid her key into the doorknob, forgetting she hadn’t bothered to lock it the evening before. As soon as the two entered the small living space they both felt an eerie chill run through their bodies and knew it was clear that they were not welcome, thankfully Kyra was able to find the small diamond ring lying on the carpet. Kyra, feeling no desire to return to the small apartment, hastily packed a travel case of clothes and essentials before quickly leading Gavin out and locking the door.

Just as Gavin and Kyra were about to leave the cursed building Gavin stopped short and turned quickly on his heel.

“Babe, let’s get the hell outta here, where are you going?” Kyra asked, her voice almost pleading with Gavin as she tried to reach out and grab his hand. Throwing herself off balance as she missed wildly.

“Where are you going Gavin, we need to get out of here?” Kyra insisted again, this time her voice more stern.
“Hang on there’s something back here, I can’t explain it, but I can’t ignore it.” Gavin replied without looking back. Reluctantly, Kyra followed her new fiancé back toward a small door that Kyra had only ever noticed once before when she first moved in shortly before she began dating Gavin.

“What do you think this is for?” Kyra probed quietly still feeling uneasy about being in the cursed building.

“It’s not what it’s used for that I’m worried about, it’s where it goes.” Gavin answered, his hands shaking visibly as he reached out for the small, painted over doorknob.

The door made a horrifically eerie creaking sound as it gave way to Gavin’s pull. The two lovers paused, flipping through menu screens on their phones to turn on flashlight apps that flooded the small, musty-smelling room with light. Gavin and Kyra gingerly weaved their way through the mess of cobwebs and old junk that looked like it may have been used by a groundskeeper decades ago. When they were about to turn back, convinced the mysterious hidden closet was nothing more than a supply cupboard for old maintenance equipment. Kyra pointed at yet another, even smaller doorway.

“Where do you think that one goes?” she asked tugging on the back of Gavin’s shirt just under his shoulder.

“I don’t…why is that one open?” Gavin exclaimed, his guard starting to heighten as he slowly inched his way closer to the menacing open doorway.

Gavin froze as he felt an overwhelming sense of dread engulf his entire body. A split second later Kyra turned and saw a glowing ball of light shoot over Gavin’s left shoulder, then rapidly turn and disappear into the mysterious doorway. As the orb past by Gavin felt an icy cold blast of air followed by an even more chilling snarl demanding him to enter the gaping doorway. Once inside Gavin called for Kyra, who still hadn’t entered the second room. Reluctantly, Kyra met Gavin’s side and the two made their way tentatively around the room until Kyra found a light switch. Much to the couple’s amazement the single light flickered a couple of times then turned on, filling the surprisingly spacious room with a dull yellowish glow.

“Wha-where are we?” Kyra stuttered, clutching onto Gavin’s arm

“It-it looks like...is this a pool room?” Gavin gasped in shock.

“Wait, babe, it’s not a pool room…this, this is where he killed them look!” Kyra yelped pointing toward a decorative tub in the middle of the room.

Gavin and Kyra split up as curiosity got the better of them and began examining the church-like room. Gavin stopped when he noticed that there was something engraved into the side of the ceremonial tub.

“Wow, that’s creepy, it’s beautifully written, but really creepy.” Gavin said his voice barely louder than a whisper as he read the engraving etched on one of the sides of the tub.
“What’s that?” Kyra asked noticing what Gavin was reading.

“Some kind of pome or something, I think it’s called ‘My Love and My Angel’” Gavin replied translating the Spanish.

“I think I remember Irena mentioning something about how Muerte would always recite a specific poem after he would kill someone.” Kyra explained as Gavin began to read the poem out loud.

The light of your eyes illuminates a false pretense of your heart that lays broken and shattered about the floor where your oblivion rests inside a bottle emptied, darkly painted.

The tears you bleed, ringing with cries for help, though the message hath fallen unto deaf ears nevertheless could it ever be any louder.

The powder stuffing the nose disfigured, desensitized and numb from the narcotics high and although your eyes are saucer-sized with inflated dilution they see nothing.

In a moment the desire to disappear for freedom merely causes the freedom to reappear, though only through the elapsing of many a year. As these questions now warranted begin to tear at thy heart wounded, the lack of answers only adds to smoke through mirrors to the already cloudy air.

What led you to this error?
Who was its heir?
Why must you act as though you don’t care?
My lass why did you go there?
Why weren’t you here?
You know I would have held you near.
I could have steered you clear.
Kissed you ‘til you smiled from ear to ear.

Now the lack of answers only adds smoke through mirrors to the already cloudy air. And although a Sinner you stand, a Hero and a Winner to me you will always land as our castle built out of the purist of sand collapses into the treacherous sea,

My love and my angel extend your hand and I will pull you to land.

Tears you bleed ring with the cries for help, the message hath not fallen on deaf ears though nevertheless could it ever be any louder.

“Do you think it’s one of his?” Gavin wondered

“I don’t know, it’s an amazing poem though.” Kyra said softly wiping away a tear.
The two stood in place lost in the nostalgia of finding such a beautiful poem in place where hundreds of innocent women had been killed. Gavin and Kyra were so lost in the moment that they failed to see the dark shadow forming in the doorway. It wasn’t until Kyra was reviewing a picture she had taken that the two finally realized they were no longer alone.

Kyra started to ask a question to the shadowy mass but was interrupted when she felt a blast of air violent push back into the ceremonial tub.

“Leave my fiancé alone!” Gavin shouted feeling protective as he faced the mass off. His efforts were short lived as he two went crashing into a wall landing awkwardly from six feet above the ground.

“You…your Muerte aren’t you? You’re the one who killed all those innocent people! Why? What did any of them ever do to you?” Kyra challenged suddenly feeling extremely light headed as the black mass moved closer to her and Gavin.

“I demand you through the power of Christ to leave her alone!” screamed making a cross sign with his hand. The shadow seemed to stop for a second then swiftly rush toward Gavin with impossible speed. The shadow figure slammed into Gain with enough force to send Gavin slamming into the ceiling before crashing down. Gavin’s head landing with a sickening thud as it crashed off one of the four steps that lead up to the baptism tub, knocking the twenty year old unconscious.

Kyra, who had started cautiously crawling her way toward her unconscious fiancé, but froze in place as the space around her turned to sheer blackness. Kyra could feel the mass starting to close in on her as she slowly began to find her feet, pressing her back into the wall behind her.

“Te-tell me wha…what you want from me!” Kyra’s voice was shaky and she wasn’t sure if she had even managed to get the words out or just imagined herself saying them. After what seemed like an impossibly long pause Kyra took a deep breath as she noticed Gavin beginning to stir.

“Kyra, he-help me I-I can’t see anything, where-where are you?” Gavin slurred franticly flailing his arms around looking for the girl of his dreams.

“Gavin, babe, I’m right here.” Kyra gasped softly, kneeling down to help her injured fiancé. Somehow, as Kyra struggled under Gavin’s listless weight the atmosphere in the room seemed to lift and the air became lighter, as she helped Gavin out of the spacious room and back toward the main entrance to the building. The two were blinded by the mid day’s sun and had to pause to let their eyes adjust to the stinging sunlight.

“Kyra wake up! Kyra wake up! Kyra wake up! We have to go get our hair and make-up done, and get your wedding dress. Come on wake up!!” Gabriella shouted excitedly as she stood beside Kyra, who was lying in Irena’s bed. Kyra was unable to comprehend what had happened and took her time getting up.

“What about Muerte and those secret rooms in my apartment, wha-what happened to Gavin? Are-are you saying it was all a dream? Am I really getting married today? What the hell is going on?” Kyra asked as she slowly began to get her wits about her just as Gavin’s mother knocked on her bedroom door and came in.
“You called 911 and they found both of you unconscious in the parking lot of your apartment, by the time they got you to the hospital you both had slipped in a coma. Gavin woke up from his a few days later and told us that you had been attacked and left for dead by some thugs looking for drug money. This is the first time you’ve woken up in two and a half weeks. The attacks, Muerte, the secret rooms, everything, they were all just dreams.” Irena explained calmly.

“When-when did I get engaged?” Kyra asked, struggling to make sense of everything she was hearing.

“The last time you had a tournament in Italy, about eight months ago. Gavin took you to the Roman Colosseum and proposed to you in front of it, uh it was so magical.” Gabriella said as though she was reliving the moment once again as she showed Kyra a picture of Gavin proposing.

The next few hours were spent sitting in stylist’s chairs while strangers fought valiantly to transform the bride-to-be and her three bridesmaids. The more time Kyra spent surrounded by hairspray and make-up kits the more she was able to piece together the happenings of her hellish dreams. It wasn’t until Kyra slipped into her wedding dress and lost her breath as she looked in the mirror that she finally felt at ease with what she had experienced. It had been a series of horrific, hellish, nightmares and that was it, nothing more, and nothing less. This though, she knew was reality, the hours spent sitting in chairs, the rapidly approaching wedding, and Gavin, the absolute love of her life. That she knew was real.

The wedding itself was a small, traditional church wedding, which Kyra thought was fitting after her dreams. Still though, she couldn’t help but think that Irena and Gabriella hadn’t told her the whole truth, what she had seen and felt was more than just a bad dream. That Muerte and the Poltergeist-like activity had been real. Tonight though, Kyra decided was going to be the best night of her life with no time to worry herself over mere ghosts and mischievous spirits. Just as Gavin was placing Kyra’s wedding ring on her finger, Kyra thought for a second that she had seen the bloodthirsty Baptist’s reflection in Gavin’s eyes as she peered into them, dismissing the thought as she took a breath before reciting her own vows.

The day and night sailed away and was everything Kyra had spent hours envisioning her wedding day would be like as a young child. Kyra let herself get so lost in the reception that she had completely forgotten about anything paranormal and danced freely until she and Gavin were ready to escape to the privacy of a five-star hotel room.

The next morning Kyra woke to the smell of fresh bacon and the sight of breakfast in bed with her new husband. The meal was slightly more rushed then she would have liked, because they had to rush to catch their plane to begin their honeymoon. Eleven hours later the two newlyweds touched down in Bora-Bora in the French Polynesia.

“Oh my God, Gavin…is this where we’re staying!” Kyra asked amazed.

“Only the best for the most perfect girl in the world.” Gavin responded as he swept Kyra off her feet and carried her inside their traditional hut. Still take aback by the exquisite, undeniable beauty Kyra let Gavin begin to undress her. Just then a sudden gust of wind followed by a sinister voice sent chills racing down both Gavin’s and Kyra’s backs. The familiar voice snarled

“The night where love is seen without a gown is the night when one will drown. The light of the day that sheds light unto heartbreak is the light in which one will not wake. I am many and I am from Satan’s blackest region.”
