Abandoned

Mystery Paranormal
4 min read

Charlie had wandered around the right woods when he decided to investigate Moor Mansion. It was Lucian that set himself free by trusting Charlie and the promises he made.

Moor Mansion had fallen into disrepair after laying abandoned for the last one hundred years. Charlie had read all about it in the book that gave accounts of the haunted spots in the area. He’d been roaming around the country for the last three years. His Freelance Copywriting job meant he was able to indulge in the Drapetomania he’d so often felt growing up. His wanderlust had taken him across the country. He would often investigate abandoned places during his travels. He’d read books along with using any other resource he could find about paranormal places across the U.S.

Moor Mansion had been his most recent interest. The lack of details about the mansion meant there was more to the story. Like with any other place that had something paranormal going on. He’d realized the lack of details could also mean there was far more to it than anyone thought. Secrets that lay within that hadn’t been afforded the ability to be heard. A ghostly presence that very well might be preventing the truth from being revealed. Like so many other cases.

He knew his decision to roam the grounds may reveal an either forgotten or hidden Crypt or Mausoleum. A place like Moor Mansion, with the little history he had, couldn’t have either one somewhere nearby. He also knew there might be a way into the Mansion itself through an underground tunnel. He knew it’d likely be somewhere in the woods behind the Mansion. It may lay deep within the woods. Deep enough for nobody to find. Or consider looking. He wasn’t so sure either one existed. He wanted to look anyway. He wasn’t so sure he even wanted to look because of the impending doom of death that was the increasingly dark rain clouds that could unleash its rain at any moment.

Storm clouds rolled in. Out of nowhere. A poetic and ironic nature in his eyes. He knew he may not have long before he had to take cover. He wasn’t so sure there was a Crypt or Mausoleum. It was well hidden if there was either one. He knew it could also lay deep in the woods where nobody was meant to go. Where nobody would ever find it. Or think to. Somewhere in between was a possibility as well. In his eyes anyway. It was an uneasy feeling he got that left him knowing it could be nearby. He’d found the Mausoleum a few minutes later. As the rain began to fall. He’d broken the lock with the small garden clippers he’d brought with him. He knew there was a chance they’d come in handy if he needed to break any locks. He’d been in the Mausoleum long enough to know something was amiss about the family that’d once occupied the walls of the Mansion. His theory of there being something more about the lack of details had been correct after all. He knew there’d likely be a door that went into the mansion itself.

Lucian greeted him in his bedroom an hour later. As the storm raged on outside. It was Lucian that’d helped Charlie find the entrance from the Mausoleum to the Mansion. He’d built it for days like today. It was Pennsylvania after all. The rainy weather could be much like the Florida rains at times. He’d revealed everything to Charlie. The only thing he’d been protecting was himself. Others had come to investigate as well throughout the years. Nobody had found anything. Nothing of significance had occurred while they were there. They’d not found anything either. On purpose.

He’d hidden everything in a place nobody would ever look. Or think to look either. Charlie followed Lucian to his study. Lucian pointed to the key on the desk that opened the door to the room nobody knew about. The deed, along with other records, lay within the room. Records that lay organized on tables and shelves. It left Charlie speechless for a moment. He looked through enough to know he’d make history. He told Lucian he’d restore the Mansion. He’d keep it safe. He was going to do right by him. Lucian found peace in what Charlie’s promise. He left knowing the Mansion was in good hands
