ARRIVAL

EXT. EARTH’S ORBIT
Ships are pulling into earth’s orbit from every direction, completely surrounding the planet. Satellites cannot detect the ships. The space force and every other agency are overwhelmed. The nuclear weapons on earth are deactivated. Russia and China have no defense either. Planes, trains, and automobiles are grounded. Everyone in New York City stays home for three days. Timothy has some food stored and tries to help his neighbors whenever he can. Anyone who cannot last gets sick or dies. The hospitals are running on generators, the places that always lack funding fall apart quickly. The United States takes large numbers of casualties. The media and governments tell citizens that everything is okay, but people see the crafts filling the skies. Roberta lives upstairs from Timothy, she’s outside sitting on their stoop. Timothy walks outside to stretch his legs and watch the sky.

Roberta

I never thought I’d live to see something like this.

Timothy

 I’m glad we’re not the only sophisticated life forms in the cosmos.

Roberta

I guess you think I’m a fool for believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Timothy

You can still believe, just say God made them too, until they tell you not to.

Roberta

You think we can fight them?

Timothy

They are definitely in control, so whatever they say goes.

Roberta

You think they’ll kill us?

Timothy

If they wanted to do that it would have been done already. Human beings have honestly been horrible.

Roberta

I’m an old woman, but I got grandchildren that I want to grow old too.

Timothy

I’m sure the visitors will make things better. It can’t be no worse for us.

Roberta

Was it really that bad?

Timothy

Yes. We just been pretending so long we thought it was acceptable. From this point on black folks can’t lose.

Roberta

I hope you’re right.

Timothy

Me too. We should know soon.

Roberta and Timothy pause for a few second to stare at the crafts moving around the sky.

Roberta

I sure could use a piece of candy.

They both laugh.

END SCENE

INT. TIMOTHY’S APARTMENT
Devices were off for days, most people cannot be sure how many. A lot of people are adapting to the lack of media. Food and water was here, and no violence took place since the arrival. Timothy is extremely curious about what these beings are and what they want. He is also pleased at how helpless the human maniacs in leadership positions are. Timothy is shocked out of a daydream when his mobile device begins beeping and vibrating. A live stream from the United Nation begins. The beings appear behind representatives of every nation. They look like light beings, then they take the shape of human beings and extend what would be an arm to the backs of the heads of representatives and they begin to speak the being’s thoughts.
 

Beings

We are too sophisticated for you to comprehend. We have been monitoring you and your destructive ways. You provided the cosmos with much fascination and confusion. We were satisfied to let you destroy yourselves until you became a danger to the rest of the life forms in the cosmos. We have been given the task of guiding you toward a great extension of consciousness. This is the only way to ensure the safety of the rest of our galactic order. We will begin to select human representation worthy of furthering the existence of your kind.

The beings disconnect from the human representatives and drift back to their crafts. The human U. N. Representatives are dazed and confused. They talk to each other with fear. The people on and near power are now as powerless as Timothy and his neighbors have been all their lives. Timothy laughs.

Timothy

It’s about time. It’s about damn time.

Timothy continues to laugh
