INT. LIVING ROOM

Andrew and Latisha are in the living room of her apartment arguing.

Latisha

I need more Andrew. I need help with the bills.

Andrew

I’m doing the best I can.

Latisha

Are you Andrew? ‘cause I don’t think you are.

Andrew

I’m doing my part…

Latisha

I don’t wanna hear that again! Get a real job if you wanna keep a roof over your head!

Andrew

Well I’ll leave you to your precious bills. You seem to care more about them than anything else.

Latisha

You gonna leave like a coward?

Andrew

No, I was a coward for staying so long. Your mind is so cluttered with what I’m not doing that you can’t focus on anything else. Now you’ll be free.

Latisha

Whatever Andrew!

Andrew

Good riddance.

Latisha

You calling me trash! Get the hell out!

Andrew packs a duffle bag and leaves.
 

END SCENE

INT. PENN STATION NYC
Andrew blends in with the other travelers at Penn Station. He lays on the floor at the Amtrak section, using his bag as a pillow. Andrew envisions himself standing on line at food pantries and sleeping in parks. A wave of calm washes through Andrew’s body. He falls into a deep sleep. Andrew is falling away from himself and lands in the middle of another Amtrak station. Someone bumps Andrew.

Person

Excuse me.

Andrew looks down for his bag, but it’s gone. He looks around for suspicious characters, but sees people hustling to and from with urgency. Andrew sits down on a chair in the waiting room. A stranger sits beside him.

Stranger

Are you a jumper?

Andrew

What?

Stranger

A jumper. Are you a jumper?

Andrew

No. I’m just on my way someplace and someone stole my bag.

Stranger

How did you get here?

Andrew

I rode the A train.

The stranger looks at Andrew with confusion. Andrew looks at the signs directing people to local trains. He sees shapes and colors with no letters in them. He points at the one with the blue circle.

Andrew

There, the A train.

Stranger

You mean the blue line?

Andrew

I guess.

Stranger

Where’s your PAC?

Andrew

I don’t belong to a PAC, but I would like my bag back. Can you help me with that?

The stranger holds up an identification card with his face and information on it.
 

Stranger

Your PAC, your plantation access card.

Andrew

This is madness. I’m dreaming.

Stranger

No, you’re not dreaming. You’ve jumped here from your earth.

Andrew

Alright, yeah, I’m a jumper.

The stranger hands Andrew a piece of paper.
 

Stranger

Wait ten minutes, then go there.

Andrew waits, looking around, He sees that everyone has PACs pinned somewhere to their person. Most cards have Bloomberg plantation written across the tops. Others have Google plantation, Apple plantation, etc. Andrew looks down at the address on the paper that the stranger gave him – 1001 Bloomberg Town.

EXT. CITY STREET
Andrew walks a few blocks to 1001 Bloomberg Town. He walks into a brownstone apartment building to the third floor. Andrew walks through the apartment to the back bedroom past the stares of the people in the apartment to meet Arisha.

Arisha

You’ll have to excuse them. They get excited when they see jumpers from other earths.

Andrew

What is this jumper stuff about?

Arisha

We have the ability to jump between the multiple earths that exists.

Andrew

Alright, when is this dream going to end?

Arisha slaps Andrew.

Andrew

Ugh

Arisha

You are not dreaming. Here we have developed Q science. The basis for all existence.

Andrew

You mean quantum mechanics?

Arisha

Yes. Now you have it. How far is your earth in Q science?

Andrew

A few people know it, but they don’t share most of it with the rest of us. Most citizens are block heads who don’t know their asses from the tips of their noses.

Arisha

So how did you master jumping?

Andrew

I’ve been studying and thinking about quantum mechanics for the last 4 years, but all I did was fall asleep in a train station.

Arisha

Did anything traumatizing happen to you recently?

Andrew

I recently became homeless, but it was only traumatizing for a few minutes, I actually felt peaceful.

Arisha

Fascinating. You have become a jumper by will.

Andrew

How does it work?

Arisha

You think of a point of space in your earth and envision it at its most basic level, nothingness. You must have done this subconsciously. Fascinating.

Andrew

That’s all there is to it?

Arisha

Once you know the science and embrace it fully, letting go of the physical world allows you to jump.

Arisha’s building begins to shake.

Andrew

Does this happen a lot here?

Arisha

No... Andrew someone is waking you up in your earth.

Andrew

A member of the cleaning crew is cleaning the floor near Andrew.

Cleaner

Sorry

Andrew

It’s okay. I’m sorry, I’m in your way.

Andrew walks over to the seats carrying his bag this time. Andrew sits to wait for a stranger, but no one shows up to talk to him. The subway signs and travelers are all back to normal.
