Brainwashed Beliefs
She’d left everything behind when she moved to Miami Beach. A far happier life that helped her in ways she’d not thought about until it was happening.
Remi had grown up in a highly conservative, religious area. An area that had traditional Southern Baptist beliefs. Beliefs that had been beaten into her from a young age. She was expected to be someone she never really identified as. She’d been raised to be a straight white girl. Even though she wasn’t. She’d known from a young age that she was Lesbian. People told her she needed to be more feminine instead of dressing as masculine as she was. Not once did she ever care what others thought or said. She went against societal views and beliefs every day.
She’d moved to Miami Beach after a confrontational argument with Owen. He’d let his actions speak for him. That he’d never really love her. His ignorant comments told her everything she needed to know. She’d let her actions speak for her when she left. She’d been no contact with the relatives that lived in the same town she’d grown up in. Her mother would’ve been ashamed of all of them. Her father included. She would’ve divorced Owen if she were alive. She left knowing she’d never set foot there until after Owen’s death. She wouldn’t be there long even then.
Nearly everyone in her now past life had sided with him. That she was merely going through a phase that would pass. That she needed to pray away the Gay. That it went against what God said. She’d continued letting her actions speak. She’d made one last Social Media post before letting go of the account she’d posted it on. She shamed everyone for not practicing what they preached. For not loving her for who she is. That nowhere in the Bible does it say that being LGBTQ+ is a sin. She’d made another one that she’d be more active on. The only people allowed were those who’d love for who she is.
She’d left behind the close minded people that would never love her. The people who were too ignorant to practice what they preached. She knew it’d take time before she undid the brainwashed beliefs that’d been beaten into her. She’d been gaslit long enough. She deserved to be happy. Like everyone else. She’d finally had hope for the life she wanted. She finally had hope for her future. For once. Hope for a life she thought she’d never have. A life she didn’t think would ever happen.
She’d become far happier in the year that passed. Her job as a remote Freelance Copywriter had given her the life she’d wanted in Miami Beach. She hadn’t cared she was living in a Hostel the first few months she was there. She’d known she was going to make a decent life for herself. She’d worked part time as a Dishwasher when she wasn’t Freelancing. She’d gotten an apartment near Ocean Ave. An apartment with an ocean view. She’d been far happier than she’d ever been before. She’d made friends that helped her through everything. She’d begun speaking out over time. In hopes of helping others in some way. She’d worked through the brainwashed beliefs she’d once experienced. She traded those brain washed beliefs for a life she loved
That is the end of Brainwashed Beliefs. Thanks for reading.
