Moving To Atlanta
Oakley moved to Atlanta after leaving a toxic environment behind. The best decision of his life had been made. With new beginnings afoot.
Oakley had moved to Atlanta after leaving the town that never loved him behind. The living situation he lived in was toxic. His dads lack of taking care of himself on top of increased signs of Dementia didn’t help. He’d downplayed and lied about everything in one way or another. Oliver was placed in an Assisted Living Facility after a fall left him hospitalized. A heated argument with Oakley led to a Neurological evaluation that diagnosed him with Dementia. Oakley was no longer willing to take care of him anymore. He’d already take a step back from daily life. Oakley’s testimony damned Oliver. Diminished fine motor skills, not listening to Oakley when he needed to along with various other factors meant an Assisted Living Facility was the only option. It was Oakley not being able to take care of him anymore that came to light. There was only so much Oakley was able to do at home.
There were people that didn’t agree with what was going on. Oakley should be the one caring for him. Despite the evidence. Despite what Oakley said. They didn’t seem to understand or care. Until Oakley put it into perspective. Oliver hadn’t been listening to the Doctors either. It was at the point where Oliver needed care beyond what he could give him. People didn’t see the decline being one of the reasons they were up in arms. Until they saw Oliver just prior to being transferred to the ALf. Until they visited the ALF after his transfer. Few had seen what Oakley was dealing with on a daily basis. They understood Oakleys decision. Oakley had put his life on hold to care for him. He deserved to have a life. People understood, to an extent, after he shared how harsh the reality of his situation was. That if they didn’t want to believe him, that was on them. He no longer cared. They should visit Oliver if they don't believe him.
The move to Atlanta had been swift. He’d sold the car and used that money to move to Atlanta. He’d never driven a day in his life because of his Epilepsy. It was never safe for him to drive. There was public transportation in every place he lived. He found a job as a Marketer two weeks after moving to Atlanta. He’d cut contact with nearly everyone a few days before he left. People, yet again, were up in arms that he was leaving. He’d cited opportunities in Atlanta. He wasn’t ever going to have a life in the small town he was living in. He’d never have the kind of life he wanted by sticking around. He wanted a life of his own for once. A decent, happy one at that. Social Media posts two months later showed just how much happier he’d become. How successful he’d become in the short time he was at his Marketing job. Social Media posts of him roaming around the city in the first few weeks after moving to Atlanta.
The Loft apartment he’d moved into was spacious. With a wrap-around balcony. It overlooked part of the city from the thirteenth floor. He’d been living in an extended stay hotel for the last three months. The first three had been spent in various Hostels around Atlanta. On purpose. He’d been able to see a different part of the city by doing so. He’d let the few people that stood by him know about the Loft. The rest found out on Social Media the following week after he’d unpacked everything. The last Social Media post he’d planned on posting for the foreseeable future that debuted the Loft. With a picture from the kitchen that overlooked the spacious living room. Another picture that overlooked the city from the balcony being the other one.
That is the end of Moving To Atlanta . Thanks for reading.
