Nomad
His life hadn’t been easy. He’d not cared he was going to be homeless when he left. He knew he’d have some semblance of a life by leaving everything his current one for one far better and happier
Jackson had left everything behind when he left town. He’d left a town that’d never once loved him. An area filled with highly religious and ignorant people. People who never practiced what they preached anyway. Comments made by the same people that he never listened to. They’d always been just that. Comments. Something he didn’t have to listen to. Comments made by people who disliked being confronted with things that made them uncomfortable. Jackson no longer cared about the majority of people that he’d known. They never reached out to him anyway. He was fine with not telling anyone anything.
He didn’t care he was going to be homeless after leaving. He had barely enough to survive in Miami Beach. His only plan being to live in a Hostel until he was able to have a place of his own. He’d not been so sure he’d find a job after getting there. He’d applied for everywhere he possibly could on the train to Miami. He knew he’d find one. He didn’t have a plan for when he got to Miami Beach. All he knew was that he was going to roam around the rest of the night after he dropped his belongings off at the Hostel.
He’d booked a private room. He wanted to have some space to himself. He knew he’d likely work his way from place to place. He wasn’t so sure he’d be able to do that. His lack of planning had come from leaving home before making one. He’d felt like trapped the majority of his life. Life hadn’t been to kind to him after all. An overwhelming urge to roam the country had seeped into his life. He had no idea how he was going to roam around if he couldn’t find a job when going from place to place.
He’d walked into a Bar near the Hostel. He’d walked right into the tail end of a heated argument between the Manager and one of the Dishwasher. Theo quit out of nowhere after being accused of something he didn’t do. Cameras showed he was innocent. He no longer cared. He’d not seen eye to eye with Ben for a while. Ben was let go minutes later leaving Remi without any Dishwashers for the rest of the night. Jackson took a leap of faith and asked Remi if he could fill in for the rest of the night.
Remi was hesitant at first. He gave Jackson a crash course and let him get to work after that. Remi came back to a spotless area. With all the Pots, Pans, and silverware put away. Jackson had shut off the machine to clean it. He was letting it refill with water while cleaning the little mess he’d made. He’d cleaned everything but the area around the sink. He was cleaning that area while the machine filled when Remi walked in. He was impressed with how quickly Jackson had done everything. Jackson had put away everything that was clean before working on everything dirty.
He hadn’t yet put any of the recently cleaned dishes away. He wanted to clean the immediate area around the sink first. He knew it wouldn’t take long to put everything away after that. It seemed slow because of the Bar closing soon. The kitchen had closed. He’d been mostly ready for the influx of everything that would need to be cleaned from the kitchen. Remi told him he’d done that already. Everything he’d put away first had been everything from the kitchen. They’d just closed and given Ben and Owen everything when everything happened.
Jackson spent the next year working at the Bar. He’d typically be the only person at night working. He didn’t mind. He’d kept up with everything to the point they didn’t need to hire anyone else. Everyone was impressed with just how efficient he was. It was an environment he’d thrived in. He’d come out as Trans during that time. He’d been closeted for the last ten years. He felt comfortable enough to tell everyone. To be openly Trans. He’d made the decision to leave in the near future. He wanted to save a little more money before he left.
He’d begun working his way from place to place after leaving Miami Beach. He ended up not staying anywhere long. He’d made a plan while living in Miami Beach. To live in Hostels everywhere he went. He’d settled in Denver, Colorado a year and a half after leaving Miami Beach. He’d fallen in love with the area and decided to settle down there. It was his second favorite place aside from Miami Beach. He’d gotten a job as a Budtender. He’d used his severe insomnia and shared what strains worked for it. It was the part of the job he loved. He’d become far happier in the last two and a half years. He’d come to terms with his past. To live the peaceful life he’d begun living.
That is the end of Nomad. Thanks for reading.
