Avery had been an openly Transgender Woman. She’d used her voice to help instead of continually being silent out of comfort. She’d rather be visible and be the winds of change in her own way.

Avery’s life hadn’t always been easy. She’d come out as a Transgender Woman while living in the rural town she’d grown up in. The typical hypocritical bigoted Southern Baptist area that lay in the middle of nowhere Florida. Her meager job hadn’t afforded her the opportunity to save much. She’d packed everything up and left with she had been able to save. She didn’t care that she was going to be homeless regardless of where she moved to. She’d decided on South Florida. She knew she could have somewhat of a decent life there. She knew she’d find resource as well.

One social media post and one week later Avery was in Miami Beach. She’d managed to find a job as a Dishwasher. She didn’t care what kind of job she got. A job was a job. She didn’t care that her current place was a room in a Hostel. The Cafe didn’t mind at the moment either. It was just a placeholder on the application for the time being. Jackson wasn’t satisfied though. He wanted her to have a place of her own. A place she could call her own. He just wasn’t sure how that would happen though.

“I’m so proud of you” Jackson said as he locked the door behind him
“Thank you. Life hasn’t-“ Avery began
“I know. It’s been far from easy. You did what’s best for you. That’s what matters at the end of the day” Jackson replied
“Very much so yeah. I left nearly everyone behind when I left home. The few that have accepted me and made changes have meant the world to me” Avery sighed
“That’s always a great thing to have people in your corner like that” Jackson answered
“Yeah, I’ll see you tomorrow” Avery smiled
“Deal” Jackson smiled back

Avery had begun speaking out far more than before. She was continually moving through the trauma that came with speaking out while being a Trans Woman. People can be cruel. Trans women have a higher risk of being murdered by 35. For simply being who they are. It was worth the risk to her though. At least she’d die being who she is. It was the stigma, ignorance, and lack of genuinely listening that led people down a road of harming others instead of helping each other. Avery vowed to be a beacon of light for others. To be the change she wanted to be.

She’d taken a leap of faith by becoming a speaker full time. She started in South Florida. Obviously. People were often left speechless after hearing her speak. It didn’t seem real at first. Until people let her know how much her speaking out helped them in some way. She’d begun writing a book about her life. She’d traded the clothes of her former self for clothes she loved. Avery saw the change she wanted to see happening. As small as it seemed at times. She’d begun networking to eventually help others. Life was finally getting better for her. To her surprise.
