PUBLIC TRANSPORT

INT. TIRINCE’S UNIT
Tirince is preparing to leave his unit for a ride on the public transport system. Tirince walks to the rail station. Tirince walks onto the platform. A rapid rail pulls into the station. Tirince walks onto the rail and enters an empty tube. The tube seals Tirince in. Tirince can see Shya in the tube across from him, and stares at her until she notices. Tirince and Shya stare at each other for a few minutes. Shya reaches up to press the voice icon, and Tirince’s tube number. Tirince can hear Shya in his tube. Shya is filling Tirince’s mind like a first touch.

Shya

My name is Shya.

Tirince

I’m Tirince.

Shya

How are you Tirince?

Tirince

Glad to be speaking to you Shya.

Shya

Oh yeah?

Tirince

Yes. Do you want to have coffee?

Shya

In Paris?

Tirince

Wherever you want.

Shya and Tirince put on their VR glasses. Shya enters a program for a small café in Paris France. Tirince follows her. The couple sits at an outdoor table to drink espresso from tiny cups. People are walking by, on their ways to daily practices.

Shya

Where are you headed Tirince?

Tirince

I like to ride the rails to clear my mind and hope for something interesting to happen.

Shya

So, what kinds of great things happen to you?

Tirince

Nothing until today. I figured if I kept trying, something important would happen, and here you are Shya.

Shya

Oh yeah?

Tirince

I have no doubt that something fantastic is happening to me right now, and I am enjoying all of it.

Shya

So, what do you do Tirince?

Tirince

I design sustainable urban programs.

Shya

Some of those are nice.

Tirince

I try to influence the so-called decision makers with my VR programs. What about you Shya?

Shya

I design digital wear for the programs. I make the ones that change colors every five minutes.

Tirince

Yeah! I am fascinated by those, I’m not surprised that’s you Shya.

Shya

That’s me.

Tirince

That’s good stuff, how is it done?

Shya

I don’t share those things with semi strangers.

Tirince

Thank you Shya.

Shya

For what?

Tirince

We were complete strangers a little earlier and now we are more. We’re moving toward friendship plus.

Shya

We’ll see about that Tirince. My stop is coming up so I’m going to exit.

Tirince

On the second meeting then?

Shya

I’ll contact you later.

Tirince

Until then, can I replay this Shya?

Shya

No. I want you to miss me.

Tirince

I better enjoy these last few seconds then.

Shya exits the VR program. Tirince exits the VR program. Shya’s tube opens. Shya steps out of her tube, and looks back at Tirince one last time before exiting the rail. Tirince smiles at Shya. Shya smiles back at Tirince and winks an eye at him. Tirince watches Shya disappear into a crowd before the rail doors closes. Tirince thinks about how we never know when something great is going to happen.
