PART 2

INT. HEAD PLANTATION BIG HOUSE
Edward stabs Zachariah in his side. Zachariah turns to Edward in a state of shock. Edward stabs Zachariah over and over again in his stomach and chest. Leetha Mae grabs Edward’s hands to make him stop. Leetha Mae hugs Edward, while Zachariah bleeds all over the floor of the study. Fell walks into the study and sees Zachariah bleeding to death. Fell closes the doors of the study.
 

Fell

What happened Leetha?

Leetha Mae

Master wanted to sell our boy.

Fell

But he promised…

Leetha Mae

Since when a master gotta keep a promise?

Fell

We gotta get Edward out of here as soon as the sun sets. You might have to run with him.

Leetha Mae

We not going without you.

Fell

Leetha, you know more eyes on me than anyone else on the plantation.

Edward

We are not breaking up our family, and we will not run.

Fell

Edward we gotta protect you, not the other way around.

Edward

We can protect each other, all of us, I know it.

Fell picks Edward picks up and holds Edward’s shoulders.

Fell

Son, I love you and want you to live. Do you understand?

Edward

Yeah daddy, but if we leave, we will die. Our only chance is to stay and fight. I know it daddy and need you to trust me.

Fell looks at Leetha Mae.

Leetha Mae

Master don’t have no family or anybody who cares much for him.

Edward

Bury him close to the house and keep going like always.

Fell

I must be losing my mind. Leetha help me to roll master in this rug. What’s the house slaves doing?

Leetha Mae

They heard him getting ready to put me in my place, so they all locked in their rooms.

Fell, Leetha Mae, and Edward rolled Zachariah in a rug to carry the body behind the house. Two shovels were laying against a tree behind the house. Leetha Mae and Fell began to dig. Edward used the knife that slayed Zachariah with to dig a hole. Leetha Mae, Fell and Edward throw the body into the hole and fill the hole again. Edward drags wood to cover the bump in the ground. Leetha Mae locks the study door and keeps the key. Leetha Mae meets Fell and Edward on the porch and the family walks toward the slave quarters.

Leetha Mae

Did you feel that?

Fell

Yeah, it’s heavy what we did.

Edward

There’s a new energy around the house.

Fell

What you mean son?

Edward

I’m not sure. I just know it’s different now.

Leetha Mae, Edward and Fell clean themselves before walking into their room.

EXT. FRONT OF HEAD PLANTATION BIG HOUSE
Carl Biden walks to the front of the Head plantation main house. He sees a slave carrying some tools toward the field.

Carl Biden

Hey boy, have you seen master Head today?

Slave

Ain’t seen him in a couple days.

The slave keeps walking. Carl Biden walks up the stairs of the main house. Carl Biden begins to feel dizzy. Carl Biden knocks on the door, stumbles, and passes out on the porch. Leetha Mae is watching Carl Biden from the side of the Head plantation’s main house. Leetha Mae Runs to find Fell.

Leetha Mae

Fell, master Biden is laying on the porch.

Fell runs to the porch. Fell picks Carl Biden up and carries him to the Biden plantation. One of Biden’s slaves meets Fell.

Fell

I’m Fell.

Glen

I’m glen. What happened to master?

Fell

Found him laying on my master’s porch.

Glen

I’ll take him to his house.

Fell walks back to the Head plantation. Leetha Mae is staring at Fell. Fell nods his head toward the field and Leetha Mae goes to pick cotton. Edward spends his time on the back porch of the main house, watching the slaves work.
