Underground City
A tale of a city found through a major earthquake. It's an odd and spooky place with gemstones on buildings. Two people explore it.
I had a dream of an apocalyptic event that I and my younger friend Derrin were in. We were outside as children playing in the sandbox, when there was a loud rumble and the earth split open. It was kind of like an earthquake, only it opened a huge round pit, kind of like a sinkhole. We both fell into the large gaping hole and found ourselves hundreds of feet down in a few minutes.
What was really strange about falling all that distance, is that we may have been lying on the bottom of a huge pit, but were unharmed. We got up and brushed ourselves off, looking at each other in amazement. We realized we were lucky to be alive. "Are you okay, Derrin?" I asked.
"I'm fine Mandy," he responded. We looked around to see we were in a large circular area of brown soil. It looked like an underground cavern of sorts.
The bottom was expansive. Besides brown dirt all over, there were groups of rocks and some boulders.. I looked up and saw it was not likely we could climb out of this pit, nor was it likely anyone could come down without special help. We both looked and saw a round entrance for a cave ahead, with a pale light flowing from it breaking up the shadows around us.
"It doesn't look like anyone will be coming to help us soon. Maybe we should try going through that opening? There isn't anything we can do but stand around and hope someone finds us," I said, turning to him to see what he would have to say.
"Yes, let's. I wonder where that light is coming from?" he replied as he squinted his eyes to see if anything unusual was there.
"Let's get going then." I took the lead and Derrin followed. It being a dream, plus the fact we were kids in it, kind of made it a double whammy against being cautious and safe.
When we had made our way across the dirt bottom, we looked through the opening and saw what was inside. It looked like there were buildings in the dim light, so we entered inside to get a better look.
We were surprised by what we saw when we got there. We were struck with awe as we saw smooth, white buildings made of stone or concrete. They resembled mini castles or Victorian homes, each with a large gemstone on top in a variety of one of three colors--yellow, blue, and pink. It was kind of an eerie sight, since they looked almost all alike, and there seemed to be no one outside.
"Maybe we can find some help here. The first house is not far away, we'll check there first, " I told Derrin.
"Okay," he responded and I started toward the home, with him following close behind.
When we got close to the home, we saw there were no animals outside and nobody who was hidden from view. There were no noises and the brown yard seemed to have not much life to it. Everything was pretty quiet, so I tried knocking at the door. We waited a few minutes, but there was no answer. So, with Derrin following, I walked over to the window and peered in.
"There's nothing in here except a broken table! Looks like it's been abandoned a long time," I remarked as Derrin pushed forward.
"Let me see!" He peered in the window and was disappointed to see I was right--nothing, and no people.
"I think we should try other houses, maybe there is someone here," I suggested, hoping I might be right.
"What else can we do?" Derrin asked. So we journeyed on, trying other houses as we went. Every house was the same story, except different left behind broken items or nothing at all.
When we got tired of looking, we found the town square, there were a few benches around it and stones laid in a circle in the center. A few of the same 3 color gemstones were laid here and there in it, a decoration I supposed. "Well at least there are benches here, we can sit down," I said as I sat down on one.
"Good idea, I am kind of tired," Darrin responded as he sat down next to me. We sat there and waited for an hour, occasionally chatting about getting rescued or referencing family.members.
Suddenly, three men in robes appeared to us. Two were in white robes with hoods and shepherd staves. The other was a short red haired man and bearded man in a blue robe. "Hello?" I greeted them.
"You cannot stay here young ones, it's judgement day. You must go to heaven to stand before God," the red haired man told us. "Please stand up."
We did as we were told, and the red haired man waved his staff in front of us. Instantly, a very solid cloud appeared beneath our feet--one for each of us. We floated on them up high in the sky, but before we get our turn at the judgement seat, I wake up and realize it's all just a dream.
"
That is the end of Underground City. Thanks for reading.
