When The Flowers Bloom

Fantasy Thriller

The human race is enslaved to the invasion and with no way out, hope is slowly dying.

When the flowers bloom, you'll see me soon whisked away into the winds with in a place filled with warmth. The sun will shine and the rain will pour until I don't feel pain anymore.

This illusion fades in front of my eyes as I see the cold stark mountains, the old grey stones and the men and women enslaved with in Trinate State. I often wonder of the world beyond these walls, free from creatures and the hierarchy of a world that used to be simply human.
It's been three hundred years and in a far away galaxy creatures were born from werewolves, to vampires, to fairies alike but none stood as fierce as dragons as they torched the lands and laid claim to all Earth's resources.

From the stories passed down and written inside forbidden books, tells the tale of a world mostly peaceful but with corruption with in our race but not one creature in the night or a slave to their plight. These stories sound like fairy tales, since I stand in the castle that houses merely ten thousand humans left.

They often talk about humans fleeing and living on the outside but the more often results for our lives is to mate and breed with the monsters who have forced us into this misery they deem to be life.

I hate every day, a smile often never found as I wait for the sunrise to peak over the stone wall that keeps us inside, while the guards watch insistently for if someone steps out of line, they are brought directly to the mating ceremony and if a mate is not present then a shot to the back of the head is what you're worth to the world we all now live through.
The process leaves no room for independence or freedom, though stories have been heard whispered among the guards that the mating process is good, even great for most as the humans that mate no longer live in Trinate State, the place we take care of, for the creatures who murder and condemn the humans beyond the walls.

You see the stories are not all just stories since every once in awhile they will bring in humans who survived outside but some are killed, resisting the life we are forced into. The idea has crossed my mind as I sweep at the stone, being one of the outside cleaners today.

I think about trying to escape, not to live a new life but to die free from their control. I've considered it many times but while all may seem bleak, they rarely abuse us unless we step out of line and most guards will state often they wish not to kill so that we can mate. They make it sound like a prize but as my twentieth birthday comes, I know the mating ceremony is all I have to look forward to in the coming days.

I finish cleaning the stones as the torches are lit and I walk back inside the castle. The whistles go off, a warning that if you're here after dark, the guards have the right to shoot and kill. It hasn't happened in awhile but often the humans who refuse the mating process will simply "attempt" to climb the wall, just to die.

The stories say when we were first invaded, this happened regularly but the past is the past and this life is all we've ever known. My own mind battles with the idea of mating or being killed and the rarity that one of the kingdoms take you in and let you serve for the rest of your life.

The last option is as close to freedom as any of us get and so I hold onto that hope day by day until the Dragon kingdoms guards approach. The horses heard for miles as the carriages roll down the hills.

I know I am to look my best today as I take out the green dress given to me a few days ago. I do not wish to look appealing but alas it is required as all those who are twenty or older are loaded into the carriages, then sent on our way to mate or to die.
